  • It is August 24th 2017 just past 11:38 a.m. And you are looking at a live image of the Falcon nine vehicle at Vandenberg Air Force Base awaiting liftoff with former set five satellite just minutes from now.

  • Good morning from Space X headquarters in Hawthorne, California My name is Lauren Lions, and I'm a system certification engineer here in our flight reliability department, and I'll be bringing you the updates for today's Webcast.

  • Now lift off is scheduled for 11:51 a.m. Pacific time.

  • 6:51 p.m. U T C.

  • Will be launching the former five satellites in low Earth orbit way Have a 40 minute launch window, but we're gonna shoot for the very top of that window today in our last launch from Baby was the Iridium to mission back in June as part of that doubleheader.

  • So we're excited to launch again today from our west coast had space launch complex for now on your screen on this beautiful shot of the vehicle, you can see the Falcon nine rocket standing 70 meters tall or about 130 feet.

  • It's taller than a 20 story building.

  • Now it comes in two stages.

  • Stage one and stage to Stage two is the bottom 2/3 of the vehicle, which provides the initial trust that Falcon needs in order to get through the lower atmosphere up to the edge of space approximately 100 kilometers.

  • Once it reaches that point, it'll separate from Stage two and fly back down to the drone ship.

  • Now a stage one is flying backstage was continuing on with this primary mission, and that's the deposit form of that, nor Corbett will be flying at 7.5 kilometres per second.

  • Now that's fast enough to get us to orbit.

  • At the very, very top of vehicle, you'll see the 17 foot diameter payload fairing that is a protective shell that encapsulates performance at five spacecraft, protecting it from loads and all the aerodynamic forces that it sees on the scent.

  • The big white trust structure that's behind the rocket that is our transporter Erector.

  • It comes with two major subassemblies.

  • First is the launch.

  • Now that's at the very bottom.

  • This is the base that the rocket is sitting on and provides connections to Stage one.

  • Now the second piece of the transporter Erector.

  • That is the strong back.

  • That trust part that critical tower provides support and connections to Stage two so that bearing ends in the spacecraft.

  • It has umbilicals for flour for power, for proponents for gases and hard lines telemetry.

  • Now it's launchpad 39 a Cape Canaveral, Florida You'll see the T throw back at Lift off, right As the rocket is ascending at Vandenberg, it's a bit different.

  • Tennessee is the treaty transporter Erector.

  • It's gonna retract, hired or lift off about three minutes before launch, and it's gonna lean back 77 a half degrees.

  • So listen in for that call out on the neck.

  • Quick Status update.

  • Falcon nine is in the process of loading propellants Way started at about T minus one hour, and the launch director held a go no go pole at T minus 78 minutes.

  • There are two types of fuel on two types of propellant on Falcon nine.

  • The first is our fuel.

  • That is a liquid kerosene RP one and the second is an oxidizer that is very cold, dense, ified liquid oxygen fueling on stage two is complete, and we're now topping off on stage one.

  • Lots loading is in.

  • Progress in both states were pretty much done on stage one.

  • Closing that out and on stage two were about 90% done.

  • Now, the next major event that's gonna happen in the countdown is the opening of the three vows between stage one propellant tanks and the engines, and that allows us to chill in the turbo pumps prior to ignition.

  • We're gonna have that call out at T minus seven minutes.

  • Very top of Falcon way have our payload status way.

  • We have our payload fairing and inside we have our former five satellite we're hearing from the customer that payload is doing well.

  • They're working no issues and there go for lunch the western ranges, saying we're good for launch and the weather is looking great.

  • Ghost, upper altitude winds and the ground level winds are looking solid for launch five.

  • Taiwan's first locally designed satellite, which is tasked with collecting data for disaster evaluation and scientific research for Ms at five.

  • Satellite was designed by the National Space Organization in SP Oh, and built by more than 50 domestic tease.

  • It'll consume the mission of the former sat to satellite.

  • Hi resolution Optical remote sensing satellite.

  • Former five.

  • It's expected observations of over observations over five year period orbiting the earth.

  • Once every 100 minutes, Falcon nine will be launching form A set five into a 720 kilometer high, low earth orbit.

  • Just two minutes after reaching that final orbit and shutting down the second stage engine, we're gonna deploy the satellite so we don't have a long 40 minute coast here.

  • Everything's gonna be happened really fast and make sure you stay tuned for that.

  • And SP oh, along with partners have put together an overview of the former set five integration test launch campaign.

  • So let's check that out now.

  • A quick recap of what happened with the vehicle in the last several minutes.

  • Vehicle tanks are pressed up with cold.

  • Feeling you, Liam, is our pressure.

  • Since the cradle arms, which hold the second stage, those started opening on the transporter.

  • Erector and Strong Backer track has begun at T minus five minutes nine went on internal power.

  • That means it's running on its batteries no longer with power Source on the ground.

  • Now you're gonna hear a call.

  • Falcon nine going into start up at T minus one minute.

  • That's the point at which the operators will hand over control of Falcon nine of the flight computer.

  • Now we're hearing that Falcon nine is ready to launch.

  • A payload is go.

  • Weather is go on.

  • The range is go At this time we'll send into those last couple of minutes.

  • It's terminal count.

  • Stage one block secured stage to your tournament.

  • Hold secure.

  • I tried to complete rac l c A Countdown one.

  • Verify Rangers Green This is the Rock Rangers Green Stu's Deluxe Closed out Falcon on his own internal power.

  • And what do you feel?

  • Complete vehicles and stuff?

  • FDs Crew announced.

  • NTS is ready for launch.

  • BC verify Falcon It's sort of Falcon nine's and start up Stage one l d Go for long.

  • 30 According Tonight's Configured for life 15 That nine Hey, seven, six five four three Do you one you see?

  • Please move to post Launch that operations for the pad on today.

  • Go.

  • Falcon nine has lifted off from the space launch complex for had with former set five spacecraft About 18 seconds.

  • We're gonna hit Max to maximum dynamic aerodynamic pressure That is the point at which the aerodynamic pressures on the vehicle are the highest.

  • Now, in about a minute, we're gonna have three major events coming up in rapid succession.

  • Main engine cut off.

  • That is where all nine engines on first stage you're going to shut down.

  • Next will be stage separation that's appointed.

  • Which stage one will separate from stage to stage one will fly down to the drone.

  • Ship two will continue on to space from there immediately after we're gonna see second engine start that it's going to be the ignition of Merlin vacuum engine, which is the upper stage engine on stage.

  • Back engine chill has begun.

  • It's looking really good.

  • Go Great success stage separation and in fact, has ignited.

  • Merlin backing engine has it.

  • You can see the glow of the second stage Engine grid fins to your left.

  • I just deployed that stage one on your left States to on your right now in about five minutes.

  • The first stage is entry.

  • Burn is going to begin.

  • That is where all night.

  • Well, sorry.

  • That's where three of the Falcon nine engines are going to re ignite and slow down the first stage is re enters the earth's atmosphere.

  • If we don't slow down, we'll burn up on reentry.

  • So we have to slow the vehicle down.

  • That's gonna be about a 39 2nd burn.

  • We're hearing that Stage two is a nominal.

  • Everything is looking good.

  • Trajectory is looking good.

  • Profits nominal.

  • So while Stage one's entry burn is going to be burning, we're going to see the Stage two main engine.

  • The Merlin vacuum engine is going to shut off.

  • So that's all gonna be happening at the same time and hopefully be able to see it on both screens.

  • Now, after after the entry burn, there's gonna be about a 52nd period where there are no engines burning.

  • And at which point after that concludes the stage one landing Burns is going to begin.

  • That is where the centre engine E nine Falcon nine's first day just going to re ignite, and that is going to slow the vehicle down to zero velocity and hopefully put it in a position to land right on.

  • Just read the instructions are West Coast Throne ship.

  • Now, for a successful here, this will be the 15 successful recovery of a Falcon nine first stage.

  • All right in back continues to be performing very well.

  • Everything is nominal on stage two.

  • We're just under about two minutes before that entry burn is gonna begin on stage one.

  • And again during that entry burn Stage Two's Merlin vacuum engine.

  • We'll shut down as we mentioned earlier.

  • This is a really short Webcast.

  • It's a short flight.

  • We're not gonna have an extended duration coast only two minutes after Seiko.

  • After that Merlin engine, that vacuum engine on stage to shuts down.

  • Only two minutes afterwards, we're gonna deploy the former SAT five spacecraft into orbit.

  • We're just under a minute away from entry burn.

  • I could see the Earth getting closer and closer to us stock.

  • And nine, it's ready to come home.

  • You coming up with an entry burn any minute.

  • Any second now in the Merlin vacuum engine over to your right on stage to continues to perform beautifully.

  • Stage one.

  • If you burn started.

  • That entry burn has started on stage one.

  • It's going to last 39 seconds.

  • It's a good and we have a second engine cut off over on stage two.

  • Entry burn appears to have ended on stage one, and we're getting confirmation that we have a good orbit for stage two.

  • This is very good news.

  • That is the primary mission.

  • And getting so that orbit is the whole goal of today.

  • Coming up in just under two minutes, we should see the deployment of the former SAT five spacecraft into low earth orbit.

  • Landing burns should be starting in about 35 seconds or so over to your left.

  • So let's keep an eye out for that.

  • Everyone's gonna last 33 seconds.

  • Your transponder.

  • That landing.

  • I can see the drone ship with you.

  • Uh, it looks like we lost the camera feed way.

  • This is main mission deployed.

  • Coming up any second with that brains.

  • Falcon nine job to close today and also signals the end of our summarize events today.

  • We had a successful first stage of sense and a successful first stage landing on.

  • Just read the instructions.

  • Stage two did a great job today.

  • Dropped off for five into a successful orbit on Laura's orbit.

  • So great deployment.

  • We'd like to thank our former customer.

  • The Air Force is 30 spacing for providing western range support today.

  • and the FAA for issuing our launch license.

  • You can follow Space X on Twitter Instagram and visit our website at space six dot com to learn more about us and our mission.

  • Thank you for joining us today and we'll see you next time.
