  • you think back here?

  • A little bit pissed, I think.

  • Far back toward bags.

  • Get.

  • Yeah, that lady is my hip bone.

  • Cocke County, Tennessee.

  • Mark and Digger ready to mash in a batch of sweet potato moonshine.

  • Hey, Ben.

  • Themselves here look like centuries.

  • Your life, you know, big sloppy.

  • The twins.

  • They're loaded up with mash.

  • Their firm it.

  • But we got a special order, so we're going to come in here.

  • We're gonna make a quick sweet potato vodka, them taters.

  • Got a cleaning Enough fuel.

  • Believe this old chicken house.

  • We use it quite often.

  • Story just tried to set up a couple of barrels mash and get this done right quick.

  • Oh, okay.

  • It's sharper.

  • None of them.

  • Some more.

  • Nice.

  • Bigger.

  • He came to me, You know, when he said, Let's let's make a little bit more of that sweet potato liquor.

  • Didn't really understand why he didn't like it, but evidently he's found somebody wants to buy some of it.

  • Have you some water, baby man?

  • Uh, keep chopping.

  • Damn sweet taters.

  • You know, just be honest.

  • I took George that liquored a little gathering because I didn't want take any of her good liquor.

  • Come find out.

  • It's a hit.

  • Apparently marking.

  • Don't want it lived A sweet tater is idea Be chopping the damn taters that that is It pains me to say so.

  • Mark Wain Ramsey does have a good idea every once in a while, buying scared of burning my fingers It's here.

  • I scared, he said.

  • You sold it to some guy you met down there now.

  • Yep.

  • Beyond this bad, he can hardly stand.

  • Really?

  • They just kept on going on.

  • Known about it.

  • Finally, he touched on a note that I could sing to you.

  • Jen him agree on the price.

  • I didn't agree to nothing.

  • He kept offering money, and I finally took him up.

  • Fits $5 court for liquor to this cheap to make you know no now $55 support.

  • Yeah, but that's what he offered.

  • Hey, we don't have to make a 10 gallon.

  • Everything would be said.

  • It's not expensive liquor to make diggers commanding a big price for our profit.

  • Great will be really, really good.

  • Here was Put that sugar in there pissed.

  • It's a pretty simple process on making this liquor ball in the sweet potatoes tiller can cook completely up.

  • Get them taters in melting a little sugar in it is often that sugar in the hot potatoes and cool it down.

  • Pitching.

  • Houston.

  • Let me work out.

  • It's simple.

  • That's about topped up.

  • You shake.

  • At that time, we'll call this here.

  • Good here, shaking.

  • Let's get that cold and top time.

  • Let's say they smell better in the taste.

  • I guess my parents love strangers.

  • I'm not surprised people like it.

  • I mean, I'm just a traditionalist.

  • I like corn liquor.

  • And I like Riley.

  • Hail founded it.

  • Freeze!

  • We've probably run.

  • Just mash two counties northeast and Cocke County, Tennessee.

  • A fall in temperature below 40 degrees threatens to slow the fermentation on mark and bigger sweet potato mash.

  • No.

  • Hail.

  • Thank you.

  • The E sting started it.

  • Names start.

  • We'd planned on a little cool snap, but this is crazy.

  • What do we do?

  • We've got a guy lined up.

  • I ain't going to set him back.

  • You know, Biggers of commanding a big price for this sweet potato vodka.

  • If we fail, that's no good.

  • Because you could destroy your reputation, Pan.

  • Uh, of course, here.

  • We can't have that I'll tell you what we're going to do.

  • It went to heat it up.

  • Keep Bill no far under plastic marking, Bill.

  • No firing their plastic barrel.

  • No.

  • We're gonna build the hillbilly water here.

  • What?

  • He'll be a water heater, you know, like we used to build.

  • We was camping.

  • Yeah, we've still got that.

  • Don't call.

  • A cop would wrap around that 55 gallon burn in hell.

  • Really?

  • Water heater.

  • I didn't know that's what we had.

  • I didn't either.

  • We thought we're just normal people.

  • We didn't always hillbillies.

  • So you're saying they go worm and just make and let out leant on post barb outlets and inlets?

  • It's that sealed.

  • Well, it won't be completely closed, but it because it'll done back in the water kettle.

  • We're just recirculating same water through that conference by Pete Nous.

  • In order to safely heat their mash and restart fermentation without melting plastic barrels, Mark and digger will construct a backwoods style water heater.

  • The heater will use a gas fired stainless steel pot to heat up to several gallons of water.

  • Wants hot enough, the water will be pumped through a tube into a copper worm that submerged in the barrel of the mash.

  • As the hot water winds its way down the coil, it warms the mash to an optimal 60 to 70 degrees for fermentation, eventually exiting the oil through another tube, which will return the water back to the pot to be reheated and re circulated.

  • I got this old worm bigger, Scott to correct pump that would find pot water.

  • I have to make a closed system out of it.

  • This just means putting fittings on each end somewhere that we can connect hoses to it, grow together, ready to rock and roll.

  • Let's get some electricity and test for it.

  • I'm here in activity.

  • There it comes.

  • Hot damn hot down.

  • I can't think of any reason for it not to work, but it's moonshining.

  • You never know about anything to you try.

  • I mean, we're just went through this every day to let Tempter gets back up in the fifties.

  • I mainly do it every day.

  • We left coming here more.

  • Miss backup.

  • This mash is right at 40 degrees.

  • Wait.

  • Hold on what this yeast needs.

  • If we could get 55 that's still working temperature forward, but I'd rather get 60 you're better.

  • And just come back in and alternate back between barrels every five hours.

  • This'll water's hot coming in here.

  • Let's see if we can get away from this tiny bit heavier now at its full water.

  • And you see you see the steam coming off, baby, you watch at home or watch these hoses.

  • We've got that one barrel.

  • My shipped about 60 degrees.

  • We'll just keep this going and just swapped them back and forth morning and night.

  • Until this weather breaks, it warms up a little bit.

  • You done good.

  • I'll tell you what.

  • Let's There ain't no need to sit here watching.

  • Let's leave that check.

  • Get us a Sam.

  • It's you.

  • Go buy me a sub.

  • Same it.

  • Yes, sir.

  • Kobe Here.

  • Yes, sir.

  • Three co.

  • We're Yes.

  • Come back here for a bit.
