Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hello, everyone. My name is F@nny. And in this video, I'm gonna talk to you about the 'Silent B' letter in English. Now, there are many words containing the letter B And sometimes, for some reason, this B is silent. Now, let's take a few examples. First, we have the word 'climb'. Now there's a 'b'. You can see it when you spell the word, it ends with the letter 'B'. But can you hear it? Listen to me. 'climb'. No, you can't. You can't hear the letter 'B'. Because it's a silent 'B'. Another example, would be the word 'bomb'. I know you're thinking of the spelling. There's a 'B' at the end of this word. But again, it's a silent B. In fact, most of the time in English, when a short word ends with the letters 'mb', the 'b' is silent. Now another example, the word 'debt'. Most of my students pronounce it 'debt'. Because they know the spelling of the word and there's a 'b' before this 't'. But it's a silent B, guys. It's not pronounced, so you actually say 'Det'. Now for longer words, again, the letter 'B' is sometimes silent, not always. For example, if I say the word 'plumber', it's a silent B. It's not pronounced 'plum-ber'. It's spelled with a 'B', but the 'B' is silent. But, if I say the word 'crumble', the 'b' is not silent. You can clearly hear the sound 'b', 'crumble'. Okay? So it's not always silent. Another example would be the word 'subtle'. Now 'subtle' is spelled with a 'B', but the 'B' is silent. Unlike the word 'subtext', 'subtext' is spelled with a 'B', but the 'B' is pronounced. I know English is a difficult language, but you will make it, guys. It's just about practice. So let's practice together, shall we? I've got a list of the most common words containing the silent B. So let's not focus on rules. Let's just practice saying those words until you actually get used to their pronunciation. Let's start. Please repeat after me. 'limb' 'numb' 'thumb' 'plumber' 'succumb' 'comb' 'bomb' 'climb' 'crumb' 'lamb' 'tomb' 'womb' 'debt' 'doubt' 'subtle' Good job, guys. Let's now move on to sentences. Repeat after me.
