Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles hi everyone Jennifer from Tarle speech with your pronunciation question today's question is how do I pronounce the word actually and actually means in fact or really let's go ahead and take a look at this word so here is the word actually you have many options for how to pronounce this word and you know what I always say pronunciation is about being understood it's not about being perfect and that's really what I want to help people to do is to be understood and not frustrated this one might frustrate you because you have four options for how to say this word alright so we're gonna do a four syllable option and a three syllable option I'm gonna do an SH option and a CH option and this will all make more sense once I get into this okay good news we are actually going to start these words exactly the same so we're going to start with AK and to do this what you're going to do is open your mouth wide for that ah sound your mouth is in a wide circle and your tongue tip will be low in your mouth with the back pulled up and then we're going to move to that K sound and to say that sound air puffs out of your mouth and the tip of your tongue is down and the back of your tongue is pulled up ack ack ack now here's where it gets to be a little confusing you can say chew or shoe what's the difference you can say the CH sound ch and to do that you're going to touch the tip of your tongue to the back of your top front teeth and then you're going to pull your tongue back to the middle of your mouth ch ch and then we're gonna end with that ew sound which is made with puckered lips and that vowel is long now we have the same vowel in the word shoe but I wrote the word out here so you can actually have something to remember it by which is because this is how we actually spell the word shoe so to say the SH sound you are going to just round your lips the tip of your tongue is not touching your teeth and the air will move out of your mouth Shh shoe and they're gonna end with that ew vowel again with a pucker so the difference here is AK chew and AK shoe so those are your two choices for the beginning of the word now for the ending you have two choices again you can say Ally or just Lee i it's up to you so if you want to add that uh that's the schwa sound just open your mouth relax lips tongue is just hanging out in your mouth there very short and then the last level here is Lee and to do this you're going to touch the tip of your tongue to the back of your top front teeth and then pull it down as you smile to say e you're probably smiling because you're happy this is finished so we have a LEE or Lee alright so bear with me I'm going to try to do all of these versions for you so one we have actually actually actually or you can say actually actually actually or we going to do the three syllable version actually actually actually and then the three syllables and with the shoe actually actually actually so again four syllables actually actually and then three syllables actually actually I hope you found this actually to be very easy give it a try I know people are going to notice the difference if you found it helpful we would love a like a share and a subscribe and don't forget if you're looking for helper products check out our website taro speech or Google Play and iTunes for all of our products and we're also now on teachers pay teacher's for all of you English teachers out there so thank you so much and I hope to see you all again next week buh bye
