  • look at the spelling of these words first Chicago Illinois spelling is not

  • helping us here so let's break these words down into the syllables so CH most

  • of my clients usually say Ch which is a perfect guest because that's typically

  • what we say but in this case we're going to pronounce it as a Shh sound

  • so to make that sound round your lips and keep that air moving out of your

  • mouth add the short uh sound sha move to caw the second syllable do this by

  • saying the k sound which was made with the tip of your tongue pointing down and the

  • back of your tongue pulled up towards the roof of your mouth then you're going

  • to move to the oH vowel by opening your mouth wide sha caw end with a go again

  • we're going to start by placing that tip tongue tip down and pulling the back of

  • the tongue up for the G sound it's the exact same position as the K the

  • difference here is that the G sound is voiced so your voice box is going to be

  • vibrating Chicago Chicago next we're going to move to Illinois start by

  • saying the word ill like you're feeling sick it's the short I ih sound and then you

  • end that syllable by touching the tip of your tongue to the back of your top

  • front teeth ill and then we're going to move to everybody's favorite the schwa

  • syllable uh just add that little short sound

  • illuh and then end with noi do this by touching the tip of your tongue to the

  • back of your top front teeth while the air moves out of your nose and then

  • the oy vowel we do that by puckering and then pulling the lips back a bit

  • illa Noi Illinois another quick tip is when you're pronouncing names of a city

  • and a state make sure that you add a little pause between the two and you're

  • going to make the first word a little more stressed so make it a little louder

  • the vowels a little longer and the pitch a little higher Chicago Illinois Chicago
