If you're learning a language I wanted to let you know about a website called italki.com This is the resource I used to find a native speaker who's teaching me Italian, But if you're looking for custom, 1x1 lessons in Japanese, English, or another language check the link below to see how you can get a free lesson. OK, here we go! Today I want to talk to you guys about the Gaijin Nod You may have heard of this concept before but usually you're either for it or against it. Which one are you? So today I brought a special guest to-- S: Ain't no special guest! S: this is my channel shawdy, know what I'm talkin bout? What's good? WHAT'S GOOD?! This is Sakura. the guy behind that popular video "Why are Black People in Japan so Weird?" According to him, if you're in Japan and you see another foreigner you greet them with a simple, little nod. It's a simple science! you spot the fellow foreigner, life the chin in a swift motion that means "hello" or in the American vernacular, "Hey! I feel you, bruh." For me, I think the opposite. If you're in Japan and see another foreigner I don't know you! so you AVOID the gaijin nod. Yeah..?? What''s your point? Basically, we don't agree. We have disagreeing views about how you treat people that you haven't met before. What do you think? So, as a black man, you know, and you see your kin on the street you're in a foreign land it's like Oh snap! Ma boy! What's good?! What's going on, ya know?! It's a connection. You wanna make sure that connection is there. Me, I'm basically ANTI-gajin nod. Mostly because, I don't know who you are and even in America, in NEW YORK you definitely don't talk to people you don't know unless you wanna get jumped. I have a serious issue when you see me walking down the street I usually look something like this: #RBF and I usually look something like this! So, when I made the "Why are Black People in Japan so Weird video" I got a lot of comments like "No, that's not right." "You do not address people you do not know." "Stupid, Sakura!!" So, I'm kind of on your side, but I'm really on my side because what also happened is that One day I was walking my daily commute and I saw this other black dude, maybe in his 40s. He sees me man and I give him a head nod dude comes in, he's like, YESS!! I felt like... "ahhhhhhhh" Also, I go to an HBCU and we in the south so that could be also something that has to do with it. More southern hospitality... Yeah, people in the south are actually nice. I'm not saying people from New York aren't No, they're not. :) I'll give you that. The other thing I was wondering is like if someone gives me the Gaijin Nod it's usually from a guy. Which I talk very differently from a friendly tip of nod. I'm just being real, I think it's more of a masculine sentiment I won't look at a woman and be like *NOD* She's like: "oh, is he trying to hit on me or something?" See, that's the issue there. I am pro Gaijin Headnod. WITH PRIDE! But, I am not for being salty about it if someone doesn't nod back or whatever. I'm all for being a little bit nicer and definitely not being as salty as you may all know. But that's basically how it goes. What do you guys think? Do you do the Gaijin Nod? Should we show them? Let's give them the nod. Ready, go!
