Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Do you think K D actually deserves more blame for his own fate? Katie is 100% responsible for his own fate. The Warriors applied pressure. I didn't like it. The media applied pressure I didn't like it. May be teammates did. I don't like that. Remember I said, I give you tomorrow's news today. I came into this series saying it could be a six game Syriza getting closed out in Game six after going into Game four. Theo going into going into Game four. I told you, the road team wins out so far. Two consecutive road team wins. I believe the third one's coming up. I also told you I sat on this set the day before the injury and said Katie shouldn't play. He should. He is risking catastrophic injury to his likely to affect the rest of his career. And then it happened. So I understand that that the doctors are saying it's a calf, not Achilles, even though it looked like an Achilles at time. But okay, it's a calf, but now it's the Achilles. But what was I hit city? I'm not a doctor, and yet it made sense to me that looks like an Achilles. If it's a calf, the calf bone seems to me to be connected to the Achilles bones. Careful, Katie. And then it happened now, so I'm sympathetic to all that. But in the end, the reason I'm sitting here saying Katie don't do it is because it's on him. You decide. You have to deal with the pressure, you decide your own face. And beyond that, when I was a kid, I didn't understand what taking responsibility really met. I used to hear while you're responsible for everything that happens to you and I thought, Well, hold up, hold up. Unlucky stuff happens all the time. How's that My fault? It doesn't mean it's your fault. It means it's happening to you. No one else is taking responsibility for it. This is your life. And in Katie's case, this was his decision. Look, a TKO. I lettered Kawhi Leonard with more pressure. The great Gregg Popovich parading out guys like Tony Parker that the most esteemed organization right, telling Kawai he should come back and play exerting pressure Co. I said, Check this out. Try this. Trade me. I know my leg hurts and you guys are doing trade me, Didn't talk in the media, didn't do anything. You know what he did? He's in the finals right now. That's what Kawai did. He didn't succumb to that pressure. Que de did. Do I feel bad from? Yes, I do. But it is. It's not just it. Does he deserve more blame? It is 100% the choices. He makes his responsibility. He is a grown man. It's his responsibility for the question. Listen, I don't disagree with you that it's his responsibility. I just don't want to hear the word blame because that has such a strong negative connotation. And I don't believe that. First of all, let's go. Let's go down a list. Number one. I've had doctors that have nothing to do with the NBA, called me yesterday and said that's happened. Plenty of people before they didn't have a calf injury. It could have happened to him, no matter what, you know, the bottom line is, is that one has nothing to do with the other. I don't believe that, but that's what they say, and I'm no doctor, so I'm going to defer to them. Number two. When we talk about K d. Let's understand something here. A citizens of sports fans. We're gonna have to make a buy minds about something because we could talk about Kevin Durant being responsible. We want to. But let's cut out with the negativity in this regard is his life is his career. This man. He could have made it easy decision. Let me ask everybody rhetorically. That is, How would you have felt about decisions? Well, I'm Kevin Ran, and I've collected over $300 million in my career. I got a player option that's gonna pay me 31 a half $1,000,000 if I don't do anything. If I don't do anything but lay at home and chill and watch soap operas and each crunch Berries, I'm still getting a minimum of 31 a half $1,000,000 next year by the waist. Oh, by the way, there's at least 27 28 other teams that I could say to them. I'm gonna be out for the entire 2019 2020 season, and they still going to give me max dollars in excess of $150 million. So guess what I could have sat back and did nothing. I could have sat back and said, I don't need this. I'm straight. I want to play ball in the future. What did he do? It's a championship. It's a championship on the line And let me address your point about Kawai Lenin because I'm not taking anything away from Kawai, Lenin, Kawai, Leonard don't have much to say. He's the cyborg. No emotion, etcetera, etcetera. Here's what I don't like about the comparison. Kawai Leonard played nine games last year. What was taught what what was speculated about him was a season long adventure. Kevin Durant was available all year long. He was available first round, second round against Houston. 1st 5 games. He was there. So you're talking about an opportunity to win a championship and a guy that is one of the elite ball. It's on the planet Earth. Watching the cyborg run roughshod over the Golden State Warriors, watching the cyborg be talked about by Max Kellerman and others. He's the best in the world. Is it possible that even though he's not 100% this brother is looking at Steph? He's looking at play, he said. Would media we was smoked these brothers 31 down. Watch me come back and smoke these brothers because he didn't come on the court in Game five and tried to fit in immediately, he started drilling threes immediately. He was like, Guess who's here? That to me has Bola written all over it. And to me, I'm like, OK, you got hurt. But the bottom line is, don't knock it for making that decision at all, because that's what champions are made out. OK, I agree with that. We're saying who's to blame for his fate? I'm saying we could use the wear blame or or whose responsibility is it a possibility? Right, but fate. But the blame doesn't. I'm not just saying that because he got hurt. That is a bad thing. That's his choice. Remember when I was I am waves and whether he should play or not. And I said, It depends what Zion Williamson's heart. No one should make that decision for him. If it were me, I'd be like, I'm not risking that, but that's not him. He did, and I would have. And if he's healthy, you don't quit on your team for the season. you came to find national Williams and echoed what you had to say that hit. But had he had he not had he had another point of view that have been all right with me? This is what I'm saying about Katie. He had an acute injury, you say? Well, Kawai was not the only available for nine games. Cady had an acute injury. At that point, he was jeopardizing his health. And and when he's watching Kwai get all the accolades right, he's hearing that it's and witnessing that. The reason Kawai is in a position to do it is because he didn't let the pressure effect him. In a way where he buckled, he caved and then jeopardized the rest of his career.
