Today is Veterans Day.
I want to say thank you to all the men and women who serve.
Thank you so much.
[CHEERS, APPLAUSE]
Since Veterans Day is on a Monday,
schools are closed for the whole week.
That's not true, but I used to tell my mother that.
[LAUGHTER]
But since kids are home from school today,
I want to help them learn something.
One of my mottoes is "Never stop learning."
And that's why I always try to teach my staff something
new every single day.
The other day during rehearsal, I
was giving them a history lesson about Hollywood.
They didn't seem to know the story.
I was so happy that I could tell them.
[LAUGHTER]
[MUSIC PLAYING]
You want to see what you're going
to be dancing with tomorrow?
Yes.
All right.
An umbrella, which is a prop that a lot of--
it's easy.
It's like-- I think Fred Astaire really made this famous.
Gene Kelly.
First, it was Fred.
[LAUGHING]
It wasn't in a movie, Mary.
It was something he did.
It was raining one afternoon in Hollywood.
[LAUGHING]
Fred and Gene were walking down the street.
[LAUGHTER]
They were sharing an umbrella.
Fred did this dance with it.
Gene said, I'm going to do that in a movie.
Do you mind if I steal it?
Fred said, fine.
(CHUCKLING) That's how it happened.
[LAUGHTER]
[MUSIC PLAYING]
[CHEERS, APPLAUSE]
True story.
You're welcome.
We'll be right back.
