  • Nicholas, I am such a huge fan of--

  • I think your character on the show is hilarious.

  • I love the show.

  • So I'm so happy to have you here.

  • And I learned that you started really early.

  • You started working when you were six years old.

  • Yeah, yeah, I was I was a young guy when I started.

  • That's young, yeah, six.

  • Young fellow.

  • Yeah, and I started, I was doing like little graduate films

  • with my dad.

  • And he started acting at 54.

  • So he changed careers entirely.

  • And so I'm a little six-year-old boy.

  • I can hardly read.

  • And he's like, want to read my audition--

  • [AW-ING]

  • There you are.

  • That's my first head shot.

  • Yeah.

  • Truly, yeah.

  • It's cute.

  • My dad took that.

  • But, yeah, so he would ask me to run lines with him.

  • And then I would start to get auditions.

  • And he would run lines with me, and start to--

  • he's kind of like my coach, as if it was athletics.

  • But I wasn't very athletic.

  • So he was like, go get them, son,

  • but send me into an audition room.

  • And, yeah.

  • There was one audition I had where--

  • I was 11 at this point.

  • And so I'd been a real pro.

  • And so it was a callback for a movie.

  • It was a Showtime TV movie.

  • And it was the co-lead of this movie called Walter and Henry.

  • It was for the part of Henry.

  • And I skipped school that day.

  • And my dad and I worked on the lines

  • and we got really into it.

  • We made all these choices for the material and stuff.

  • And so I go into the room.

  • My dad's going to wait in the waiting room.

  • He's outside.

  • And then I come out of the room.

  • I see my dad's there.

  • He sort of gives me a nod.

  • We don't talk.

  • We go to the elevator.

  • There's other kids around who are still up for the job.

  • So we don't talk.

  • We go down the elevator.

  • We go outside.

  • It's in New York City.

  • And he looks at me.

  • It's swirling outside.

  • It's loud, whatever.

  • And I'm buzzing.

  • And he goes, so how'd it go?

  • And I put my hands up like this.

  • And he puts his hands down like this.

  • I go, I [BLEEPED] nailed it, Daddy!

  • I slapped his--

  • I'm sorry for cursing.

  • That's all right.

  • But it helps the story so much.

  • And it's true.

  • Yeah, it's true.

  • I really did swear, you know?

  • And we just danced around the streets, you know.

  • Did you get it?

  • And I got it, yeah.

  • Good, well that's--

  • [APPLAUSE]

  • I don't know, if you haven't watched Succession,

  • this is the second season now.

  • Explain what it's about to everyone.

  • Succession is about the Roy family,

  • who is a billionaire family.

  • They own movie studios, and newspapers, and the world,

  • you know.

  • They're just hugely influential.

  • And and at the beginning of the show, in season one,

  • first episode is the father, the patriarch

  • of the family, Logan Roy, is turning 80.

  • And he's going to give the company to one of his children.

  • So the show continues to kind of be

  • about that, a man who's not willing to give it up,

  • and kids who are ready to take it from him.

  • It must be so fun to play that character.

  • But you get yelled at every week.

  • I mean, every week they just tear you apart.

  • Yeah, they do.

  • 'Cause they act like you're an idiot.

  • And it's just-- and there's theories

  • that in the next season, that you're actually

  • going to be-- be careful now.

  • Sorry.

  • There's theories that, in the next season, that you actually

  • could inherit everything and take over.

  • Do you-- what do you think about that?

  • It could happen.

  • I have no idea.

  • I just love the show.

  • And I love you so much.

  • And--

  • I'm so glad you like it.

  • Yeah, it's fantastic.

  • And I just-- you can come over and just

  • hang out whenever you want.

  • You just--

  • Here?

  • Yeah.

  • Yeah?

  • Yeah.

  • I would love to.

  • Yeah just I'm allergic to cats, though.

  • Oh, that one was not real.

  • It was just a man in a suit.

  • OK.

  • 'Cause I was getting a little sneezy

  • when that guy walked past me.

  • No, that wasn't real.

  • OK, Yeah.

  • Succession airs Sundays at 9:00 on HBO.

  • We'll be right back.

Nicholas, I am such a huge fan of--
