  • Our first camping excursion in Japan was nearby at Misaki Camping Ground,

  • near the base of Mount Fuji on a peninsula jutting out into Lake Yamanakako.

  • Our tent is up!

  • Uncle Paul's got his tent

  • They're still working on theirs. Yep.

  • Lake Yamanakako is less than 2 hours away, which makes it a great setting for a weekend get away from Tokyo.

  • The campground was full but not crowded. It was the perfect family retreat into nature.

  • How's it going, Becca? Good.

  • You excited to do some camping?

  • Oh my! Do we have all of our spots ready already? Oh look! How cool!

  • We have Sarah and Anna over here...

  • (Inaudible)

  • Joshua and I kick like wild and if somebody kicks us, we don't wake up.

  • Go get it on that side.

  • Whoa Anna!

  • We have our tents up. It's our first one-night excursion here.

  • Oh yeah! Our first time camping here in Japan.

  • After we setup our campsite and had lunch, it was time to start exploring our surroundings.

  • We went to go feed the fishand the swan got in on the action as well.

  • Oh my goodness! It's a feeding frenzy!

  • Ben, do you want to go swim with the fish?

  • No, do you?

  • Some like feeding the swan, others preferred feeding the fish. Can you guess what Anna preferred?

  • Don't... no! Not you, not you.

  • Fish!

  • After the smorgasbord was finished, we went to check out Sakura Park in nearby Gotemba. We were in for a big treat.

  • We going to go check out this park? Does it look so cool?

  • Oh my goodness, you're seven now. Is life different when you're seven years old?

  • How is it different?

  • Well, I get new chores. You get more chores?

  • And when I go to Paz, when I go to church I go to J-kids.

  • Oh, when you go to church you go to the older class, the J-kids class, huh?

  • Because Mommy said only elementary students can go. Whoa, very cool. Now you're elementaryawesome!

  • Can you do it? Let's see. Whoa, that's skinny!

  • You're doing a good job though. What is "skinny?"

  • It's narrow.

  • Whoa Becster!

  • Queen of the mountain!

  • This slide is insane! How cool is Japan?

  • I'm hurting my butt!

  • Wow, that was a huge slide!

  • Let's go to that one next!

  • Look at this!

  • There's Mt Fuji. It's a little hard to see today, but it's there.

  • Daddy hurry!

  • I need to poop!

  • You need to go poop?! Yeah.

  • Oh man! That's like "Floor is Lava."

  • Here we go, Dude!

  • This way? We're going up. You want to do that one?

  • 3, 2, 1 ahhhhh!

  • We did it!

  • Are you guys helping? Yeah.

  • Hi Izzy! Is this fun?

  • Not just the kids had a blast, but the adults did too.

  • We stayed a long time at the park and even made some new friends along the way! It was a great time.

  • So this park, on a scale of 1 to 5?

  • Five. Five stars, bro. A five?!

  • Holy cow!

  • This place is awesome! Bring the fam'

  • Not only is the park awesome, but the weather's great, the company's great.

  • I'd come here everyday if I could.

  • It's got a nice little hill for Momma-chan to sit on.

  • And watch everyone.

  • I like this slide because two people can go side by side.

  • Alright! Do you want a whole bread or half of a bread?

  • Doing your hotdogs over the fire, very cool, huh?

  • Are you the baby smoke shield? Yea, I am.

  • Can I hand this to you, yo, Dude, Nate?

  • Sure! Yes, thank you, Sweetie.

  • Whoa!

  • For the adults, some brats!

  • Sarah, what are you making? A marshmallow.

  • Good?

  • Are you chips good, Dude?

  • Are you ready to explore just a little bit? Maybe we'll see Mt Fuji! Alright.

  • I'm coming! Oh you are too? Good!

  • The clouds are coming over the mountains like a blanket!

  • Oh yea, they're getting ready to sleep.

  • We get up here a little further and I bet we see all of it.

  • Oh yea, because you flew the drone and it was like so beautiful. It was so beautiful on the drone, wasn't it?

  • What do you see? What is it?

  • Snails! A bunch of snails, huh? Can we get it?

  • Sure So fun!

  • Oooooo

  • Oh look! It's coming out.

  • Yeah, it wants to walk.

  • It's alive.

  • I see Mount Fuji!

  • Are you going to throw it in, Dude? OK, big throw, big throw!

  • Now this is Life in Japan! (Singing theme song)

  • Look at all those snails! This one is out though, the baby one.

  • That's for dinner.

  • Is this dessert tonight? Do you want to have snails for dessert?

  • What did you say? It's all about perspective, Ruth.

  • What did you say? It looks like a pig's nose.

  • What did you find, Joshua? Um, a stick! I'm going to throw the stick in the water.

  • OK, show me!

  • Whoa, my goodness, look at all of those snails.

  • We're going to wash our hands real good when we get back, OK?

  • Look, their eyes are going down.

  • Then they're going to come back.

  • Hey Daddy, look, I'm Moses. You're Moses.

  • Part the water! Part the Red Sea, Boojyah!!!!!

  • It's not that late yet, but everybody is tired and we're getting ready to go to bed.

  • So all the kids are going to sleep and I think the adults might stay up a little bit and still chat by the campfire. It should be a lot of fun.

  • What's the word there? It's chilly in there.

  • It's chilly in there?! It's cold in there.

  • Joshua, do you want a corndog? There's Joshua, Sarah's been asleep for a while.

  • What do you want? I want some pretzels.

  • One of the best parts of camping is the campfires at night.

  • So true. Kids are asleep.

  • Everybody's getting up.

  • It's a rainy day, so we're going to have to tear everything down in the rain, huh?

  • Now we get to take our tent down in the rain, so here we go. Let's get 'er done.

  • Well guys we did it. It's so wet but we got everything back in.

  • Bye bye campground.

  • It was fun, wasn't it? Yeah.

  • Here is the aftermath of camping.

  • We had to dump all the wet stuff in the entry way and work on getting it all dried and organized.

  • Well first things first, in order to attack this cleanup really well I think we need a fresh pot of real coffee.

  • Is there an orange building next to us?

  • It looks like we own a parachute here.

  • Are tent is finally stretched out to dry out a little bit, even though it's still rainy out.

  • We can dry it some, the rain has stopped, that's good!

  • It's a warm day already.

  • Boy, we're blessed we got a sunny, beautiful day, didn't we?

  • Let's get these tents setup and dried out, right?

  • OK, we got Ben's tent setup to dry, we got his tarp over here.

  • The big one is the tent. We're going to set this thing up again, man!

  • The sun is just beating down now but we almost got the tent setup.

  • Ben's showing us how it's done. We're doing it, man.

  • We don't have Ruth here so we're proving that we can do it without her, although it is so much nicer with her.

  • So we got our tent setup. It's all good. It's airing out.

  • Ben help me set it up and God gave us a beautiful day so we could dry out tents.

  • Because it's supposed to rain all week this week, so this is our only chance to do it.

  • Thank goodness for a sunny day to dry our things.

  • We had a blast camping, and we're looking forward to more camping.

  • So thanks for watching, liking and subscribing.

  • And we'll see you next time on Life in Japan. Bye bye.
