The College of Bioresources and Agriculture of National Taiwan University
used to be the College of Science and Agriculture
during the Japanese Colonial period
In 2002, the college adopted its current name
to acknowledge the Advances of Agricultural Technology
It has persisted in its pursuit of the sustainable development of bio-resources and the environment
For a long time,
the College of Bioresources and Agriculture has prioritized the nurturing of quality researchers for higher education institute
and made contributions to the agriculture and bio-industry with academic studies
The college is composed of 250 faculty members and 4200 students
It has nurtured generations of outstanding researchers in the agriculture and the bio-industry
Our studies and research start from the care of living and producing conditions of farmers
and concentrate on rural and agricultural development
in order to achieve innovative and creative breakthroughs
With professionalism and enthusiasm
we have adopted principles of science, management, and technology
to explore four major fields
crops and the environment

The institute dedicated to Crops and the Environmental research
include the following five
The Department of Agronomy
continues making breakthroughs in the traditional agriculture industry
by improving crops both in quality and quantity
and ensures environmental and consumer safety in the process
The Department of Agricultural Chemistry combines
the knowledge and technology of chemistry
physics and biology
It explores the interaction between humans and the environment
to protect and control the agricultural producing environment
and studies the application of bio-resources
The School of Forestry and Resource Conservation
is rooted in traditional forestry
and takes lessons from mother earth
It concentrates on sustainable development of resources
and bio-diversity maintenance
The Department of Horticulture and Landscape
makes use of traditional and innovative bio-technology
to improve the variety, production, management, and application of horticultural crops
so as to elevate our quality of living
The Institute of Food Science and Technology
integrates food technology with nutrition studies
and focuses on R&D and innovation
thus increasing the application value of various food
Five other institutes specialize in biology
The Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology
utilizes the diversity and secondary metabolite of microbes
to expand the application of microorganisms in agriculture
bio-technology, medicine, and environmental protection
The Department of Entomology studies pests against both human beings and animals
and the applications of insects
It values environmental protection, bio-diversity maintenance, and ecology preservation
The Department of Animal Science and Technology elevates the application value of animal resources
via biology, reproductive physiology
breeding statistics, business management, and producing and processing
The Institute of Biotechnology by integrating all relevant technology
strengthens the competitiveness of the bio-industry and agriculture
The School of Veterinary Medicine approaches health issues on both human beings and animals
from an animal-oriented perspective
It makes efforts to prevent and monitor zoonoses
develops new methods in diagnosis and treatment
and promotes animal welfare and protection
Two institutes focus on engineering
The Department of Bioenvironmental Systems Engineering
develops engineering technology and utilizes management approaches
to ensure environmental sustainability and support social economic development
The Department of Bio-Industrial Mechatronics Engineering
strive to meet demands of mechatronics engineering
and system integration in the bio-industry
and improves its competitiveness and level of automation
Institutes which contribute to social sciences include the following two
The Department of Agriculture Economics
which studies agriculture, environmental resources, and produce marketing
It applies economics, accounting, and statistics
to promote the academic and economic status of Taiwan's agriculture
The Department of Bio-Industry Communication and Development
focuses on knowledge sharing within the industry, consumer marketing,
community mobility and living industry innovations
It promotes professionalization and modernization of the industry
and environmental assisting ability
With different departments covering various fields
the college is a comprehensive educational and research institute
capable of interdisciplinary studies
The activities of these departments are assisted by affiliated organizations in the college
These include the Agricultural Extension Committee
which offers extension assistance and technology consultation
to farmers and government agricultural bureaus
The phytotron offers us self-contained space
which guarantees precise control of the environmental conditions when conducting experiments
and the Hydrotech Research Institute, which is co-founded with the college of engineering
provides thorough study resources for hydrodynamics, hydrography
water resources engineering, and engineering design and analysis
The agricultural exhibition hall functions as an educator
in promoting and expanding agricultural information and knowledge to the public
The Education and Research Center for Bio-Industrial Automation
promotes bio-industry automation education
It nurtures talents in producing, manufacturing, promotion, and management
The experimental farm assist ecology education
intern practices, experiments, and research
by providing necessary materials and environments
To the public, it offers guided ecological tours and
diagnoses and consultation of pests and diseases of plants
and abundant agricultural products and spaces for leisure activities
All the affiliated organizations are eager to interact with the public
so as to contribute the results of academic research to the people
Furthermore, the college also includes the experimental forest
which covers one percent of Taiwan's land
It is an important research base with wide biodiversity
and has five forest types with distinctive biological features
It bears the responsibility of promoting Taiwan's forestry
so people can appreciate the natural environment
and is a treasury of national biological resources
In addition, the highland experimental farm located at the mid to high elevation
has an environment that is suitable for
research and experiment of highland agriculture and ecology
It also serves as the business model of sustainable development of highland agriculture in Taiwan
and is dedicated to promoting and expending the practice and relative knowledge
to ensure the highland resources can be better shared and used
The Veterinary Hospital provides intern opportunity for both students and foreign practitioners
and also conducts quarantines for imported small animals
on demand of the council of agriculture
To meet changes in customers' needs
It expanded its medical services by procuring Computed Tomography equipment
and established Asia's first animal cancer center for research and treatment
which upgrades clinical diagnosis techniques
In response to industrial transformation and research needs
the Ecological Engineering Center
the Consulting Center for Statistics and Bioinformatics
the Bioenergy Research Center
the Research Center for Plant Medicine
the Research Center of Food and Biomolecules
the Center for International Agricultural Education and Academic Exchanges
and the Zoonoses Research Center were also established by the college
These functional research centers boost partnership with other institutes
via academic exchanges and cooperation
Moreover, the Joint Center for Instruments and Researches
coordinate resources and actively upgrade various high-tech research instruments
thus elevating the quality and efficiency of R&D activities
With all these resources and diligence
students and faculty of the college have achieved significant academic successes
Their achievements are remarkable in both quantity and quality
The fruitful research results are published in various academic journals
and wildly practiced in the industry
through accessing patents or transferring of technology
Students and faculty are often acknowledged by internal or external institutes
with awards and praise for these efforts and achievements
They are also closely involved in policy making
and provide professional suggestions to formulate comprehensive agriculture regulations
Since the founding of the college
it has nurtured numerous talents
who have made great contributions to the industry, government, and the academia
The college focuses on local agriculture
and it is opened MBA courses in Taiwan's agricultural hub
so as to upgrade the quality of agricultural personnel
and meet the demand of agricultural development in Taiwan
Students and faculty have built an intimate relationship with local farmers
They investigate the needs of the industry
and provide technical and professional training which are greatly received
Furthermore, the college has built a long-term partnership
with internationally renowned universities
in the U.S., Australia, Japan, and Korea
by signing the international agreement on academic exchange and cooperation
An association is also formed by the signing cooperation of MOU
with the International Rice Research Institute
the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Studies and Research in Agriculture
and the French National Institute for Agricultural Research
The college also regularly visits
foreign educational institutes
and participates in important international conferences and seminars
and plays a significant role in these occasions
To encourage global interaction
the college provide short or long term courses
to recruit students from southeast Asia, Latin America, and the U.S.
and invites world-renowned scholars to make speeches or lectures
Through these in depth exchanges of agricultural research
the college is able to promote Taiwanese experience
and learning from its foreign counterparts
The college also provides several distance learning courses
together with Kyoto University
They offer brand-new learning experiences for students
which may trigger new opportunities
of cooperation between the two institutes
The College of Bioresources and Agriculture

We want to pass on the belief of sustainability
by holding projects, camps, and activities

to create a better quality of life

We will change the flaws of old-fashioned technologies with innovations
and integrate the expertise of different fields
to built an uplifting spirit
