Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hey guys! Welcome Jei back to my channel! and this is Holly! This is her first time being in my videos She was actually the first person to ever send me mail! She sent me this adorable picture that I still have up over there So we've known each other for years, and now she's finally in Japan! Today we're gonna be making a Japanese tongue twister video The other day when I was drinking with Jei at his seijin shiki we were talking about tongue twisters and he was ridiculously good at them So I figured I had to bring him here to make a video So we've got 5 tongue twisters today to teach you guys Me and Jei are gonna battle, and Holly is going to be the judge And we'll try to think of some penalty for the person that loses Let's do this! We'll start with something easy, I think the easiest one is probably... Nama mugi means raw wheat Nama gome is uncooked rice Nama tamago is raw egg So we're gonna try and say that 3 times Ladies first! Oh god, okay... That was really good I've got the pressure now, you said I was really good at this All right, here we go Holy shit! Oh my god That was so fast! He totally won that one That was like twice as fast as mine Ok the next one is his specialty This is the one that he's been practicing for years So I'm obviously gonna fail this one Do you wanna teach them this one? A bouzu is a monk or priest So I guess it's like a religious head figure A byoubu is a folding screen You know those fancy folding screens that you see in traditional Japanese homes Jyouzu means to do something well, skillfully Bouzu, so again the monk or the priest E is like a painting Kaita can mean to draw in this situation So the monk drew the monk's picture well on the folding screen Doesn't have to make sense it's just a tongue twister Three times? Sure if you can yeah I'm good at once, but all right let's go Holy crap! What even! Is there a world tournament for this? Because you should definitely enter Ok this one is new for me so I keep forgetting what it is You definitely won that one A for effort I feel like they get harder though Yeah it's gonna get harder for me too This next one's a new one for both of us, we just found it on the internet He said he went to Tottori with his brother 2 days ago Ototoi is 2 days ago Otouto = younger brother Tottori is a place in Japan Itta to = said he went Ok ok, I'm gonna try Was that right? Yep you got it I feel ilke I'm gonna lose this one, here we go I think you're gonna win one Here we go, my last attempt No... you got it you got it I finally got one! Mine didn't even sound like Japanese though I feel like when you say it really fast it doesn't even make any sense This is the first Japanese tongue twister that I was ever taught when I was learning Japanese Tonari no kyaku = the customer next to you yoku = often kaki = persimmon kuu = casual way of saying eat kyaku = customer The customer next to you is a customer that often eats persimmons That's even hard in English I'd never eaten a persimmon until I'd got to Japan Yeah me neither! It looks like a tomato but it's orange One of my friends gave me those and I was like "Is it supposed to be a mandarin??" I learnt the Japanese word before the English word Yeah same! Everytime I see them in Canada I'm like "Oh kaki!" Do you wanna try this one first? Ok wait, one under my breath practice round Ohh that was really good Oh no~ the pressure I wanna give it to you Cause she's been friends with her for years That makes it 2-2 and the last one will be the deciding round Ok we have 2 more to choose from, which one do you think we should go with? Let's go with the super hard one that makes no sense So this last one is very long and very awkward It's actually kinda difficult to explain I can't even say it slowly kaeru = frog pyoko pyoko = frog noises mi = 3 So it's saying the frog croaks, 3 croaks and then put them all together and it's 6 croaks So I think it's saying there are 2 frogs that are croaking 3 times each? And all together it's 6 Let's go with that Something like that Do a slow round first Did I say it? Yeah you said it well You did it pretty well What's happening if I lose again? We don't know yet? We don't know yet, we'll find something in my fridge Ahh it's not mu, it's awasete. I'm gonna read it He was like THIS close to beating you If you had said that last one properly you totally would've won Do you like licorice? Black licorice I hate So I've got these snacks from Finland So his prize is some Super Salmiakki If you guys watched my fan mail opening video over on my 2nd channel you know what these are They're like a combination of black licorice and menthol They've got like a minty flavour to them That's even worse than just normal black licorice All right, I say you have 3 Oh yah the menthol! You're going one by one I woulda just been like get it all over with Yeah I have to I have to I think my gramma would like this Actually yeah my gramma used to eat something really similar So to me the flavour isn't that strange You're willing eating one I'm used to this flavour Oh my god That's so funny, I'm used to the flavour When I posted the video everyone was surprised that I wasn't keeling over with disgust That's me, omg it's so bad All right guys, well thanks for watching Cheers! If you have any more Japanese tongue twisters you would like us to try Leave them down in the comments! I'm not really familiar with any more so I would like to learn some more Make sure you check out Jei! And Holly also has a channel! I will link them both below, so check them out And I'll see you guys soon! Bye!
