  • Um, from from the time of Wednesday's meeting, up until obviously now, have you had a sense Are you able to take yourself out of the moment and recognize that you're a part of a historical moment?

  • Has that have you been able to reflect?

  • Did you realize that?

  • I realized that, um but no, I'm not trying to take myself out of the moment.

  • Um, that black lives matter is, I want to see it, right, But no, it's just freedom.

  • Um, that's that's when we got a live in that.

  • You know, black guys really do matter and things a lot of really emotional for these players to go out there and play while stuff around the world is still happening.

  • They're just still happening.

  • Um, on, that's where that's why we're freedom on my back.

  • Because it doesn't matter where you're from.

  • Um, you know, lives matter and, uh, those tough to see what's going on even come from, can stuff to see what's going on because I've been a part of it has happened to me happened me and my dad numerous occasions on.

  • Somebody's got to stop.

  • Germany kind of alluded to it, but, I mean, it was just a couple months ago that we were on a zoom calling.

  • You asked us to share, You know, any experiences with racism that we've had in our lives in here we are, You know, just a couple months later.

  • And obviously, nothing has really changed.

  • As as a black man who has experienced I mean, just how how are you?

  • How is your mental state?

  • And how tough is it to kind of?

  • As Mike said, just balance the different priorities that you you have in the bubble.

  • Right now, my skin color should not determine whether I live or die.

  • This'd a human civil right crisis that's going on on three amount of injustice happening over and over.

  • So incredibly so Dunaway inhumane, um, excess really emotionally by the bucks for the first time to do it to take a stand.

  • And it wasn't because it was busy.

  • Doesn't wanna play basketball, you know, actually spoke from the heart, man.

  • I'm gonna happen in your backyard.

  • You know, something so played.

  • No, it's different.

  • Takes different tone and the different heart, you know, So we all understand why.

  • And you know that pause was necessary.

  • Not just for us to, um does being out here in bubble with all the, you know, mental fatigue we're dealing with.

  • But way need to possible to figure out how we're gonna impact change And none of us in that room of every bounce players, guys that you look to those leaders, none of us politicians and way we're trying to figure out ourselves and how we can move forward.

  • And it took a collective group.

  • No matter is in the meeting.

  • And, um, it's gonna take cut ongoing group Thio figure out steps of change in ways that we can really impact and really make a difference in the world.

  • And, um, yeah, I'm just glad that we took this pause.

  • You guys will make me frustrated.

  • No, they were spending more times a couple more days already in the bubble butt.

  • You know that That that positive necessary for us to gather our thoughts and really trying to use our platform use uh, stopping the n b a.

  • Gave us to, um, later speak on the topic that we want to speak on stuff that matters to us as black men and as as players.

  • Go ahead, Jamal.

  • What did you want people to get from you setting those shoes on your stool for two minutes or so before you started this interview?

  • What was your thought process there?

  • I just wanted you guys to resonate.

  • I just wanted to resonate you guys, um, anybody was watching.

  • Um, how long will this in?

  • Two minutes?

  • One person on that.

  • She had any other next eight, and you just gotta think about that.

  • I guess it doesn't take me a 23 year old to recognize that that's not right.

  • That that should be in everybody's mind.

  • Um, if you don't see that way, then there's a problem with you.

  • And I just wanna let that sit on.

  • Uhh.

  • No, that was only two minutes.

  • Whatever.

  • However long you guys can go back in time.

  • But I was only a quarter of the time that somebody had a knee on the next until life lived away.

  • Hey, was a father and son on our brother on Uhh.

  • No, it's it's tough when you really let us see in your mind, um, replayed over and over your head.

  • So all right, next we'll go back to Mike.

  • Singer might go ahead, Jamal.

  • Um, you just say, you know, you guys aren't politicians it like, Do you feel like there is being too much asked of n NBA players right now in this moment?

  • Or is this an instance of n NBA players rising to the moment and accepting the responsibility?

  • We're not we're not asking me, but were, um Like I said, we're sit in the room of just players and we're trying to come together and think about ways that we can make the necessary steps to make change.

  • And, um, that's on us.

  • And that's that's what everybody know we're trying to get.

  • We're trying to everybody involved on.

  • We're trying to use our platform in the right way.

  • Um, we're not gonna take just us.

  • We need a whole lot of help, but no one is asking us to do this, you know, this is coming from the heart.

  • That's why it means so much more because guys really hurt guys, really feeling guys don't wanna be playing sometimes.

  • And until we see change, you know it's tough to go out there and keep a good headspace knowing that stuff from the world is still happening.

  • And, um, no, we don't want us to be destruction with this Thio help.

  • Everybody helps people back home.

  • You know, I always Jimmy brother did one thing.

  • He took his name off his jersey.

  • I think that was so powerful because, you know, he's just just another black man.

  • You and we will tell the difference, you know, could be homeless.

  • Could be walking on the street.

  • Um, you would never know discuss?

  • We have a name on her back and play basketball.

  • That kind of takes the light off who we are, What we do on when somebody hurts.

  • You don't really see it.

  • So it's the mental side of it is a really big factor.

  • How do you think about how I perceive things high?

  • Look, somebody.

  • And like I said, the color my skin should not determine without ever die.

  • Yeah, Jamal, you tweeted after the shooting that we demand justice and have you in the players and the management had a chance to start discussing how you guys might be able to achieve the commitments outlined in the agreement.

  • Yeah, um, we're trying to get the first step is just get every team registered to vote, going to be able to go and, oh, tell everybody in the world to voting and that their vote makes a difference and way got a hold ourselves accountable.

  • So as players No, I take that person one.

  • If I'm not making shots, start for me to go tell somebody make shots.

  • I'm not making deeper playing defense, Harper to tell some of the defense.

  • So first step is toe.

  • Make sure they were already vote.

  • I'm Canadian, so I'm gonna do the mess I can tow.

  • Put the message out there, but that's the first step.

  • Hold ourselves accountable so that when we go and have these new plants in order or new steps in order to make change, uh, no older house.

  • I saw still high standards as well.

  • Um, and not just my fingers.

  • So we're putting the onus on us first.
