  • This afternoon J attack has changed the threat level across the United Kingdom from terrorism from substantial to severe.

  • The British public should be alert but not alarmed.

  • This is a precautionary measure following the terrible incidences that we've seen in France last week on the events that we saw in Austria last night, the first and most important duty off the government is obviously to protect the British public and we are doing that and will continue to do that through the measures and the tools that we put in place in terms of dealing with terrorism and terrorist activity.

  • At this particular stage, though, if the public have any concerns, I would ask them to report anything of concern that they may have to the police.

  • But as I've said, this is a precautionary measure in light of recent events that we have seen and of course, now the public will see more visible policing across the country on that is right in light of the threat going up.

  • But as I've said, the public should not be alarmed.
