Central African Republic's top court has confirmed the re election of President Faustine Arcand Touadera, rejecting the complaints of his rivals as the government fence off a rebel offensive.

10 of the incumbents challenges had argued the election should be rerun, citing low turnout due to violence that has raged in the weeks before and after the December 27th poll.

They also alleged voting irregularities, But on Monday the Constitutional Court rejected those arguments outside the court.

Touadera said the outcome defied those who thought violence and intimidation would stop the people from exercising their duty.

But while he was celebrating in the capital, Bungie, the violent challenge facing his administration was being underlined elsewhere to United Nations.

Peacekeepers from Gabon and Morocco were killed on Monday in a rebel ambush outside the southern city of Banga Sue In all, seven peacekeepers have been killed since violence flared last month.
