Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles (upbeat music) - What the hell's going on? - The original cast was great. - Do you imagine it as a stoner comedy? - It's a big advertisement for trench coats. - (whirs) - Such a good choice. - I'm gonna take the blue pill. - Wow, I'm really proud of us. - Yeah, me too. (upbeat music) - Hi, welcome to the Recast. I'm Natasha Vaynblat. - And I'm Cody Reiss. - And today, we are talking about The Matrix. - Wow. - One of my favorite movies. - Truly one of your favorite movies? - Truly, I remember where I was when I saw it and I remember seeing it and being like, does everyone else know that this could be a possibility? - Wow, you understood it that much? - Yeah. - I feel like when I first saw The Matrix I was like, "What the hell is going on?" They're plugged into machines here? I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. - Wow, well, I'm really glad that we are doing this together. So, it'll be really fun. - I'm hoping by the end of this to kind of understand what The Matrix is about, at the very least. - Okay, good. The original cast was great. - [Cody] Beautiful, one of the best casts. - Truly perfect. We're not saying it wasn't fantastic. - Love 'em. - But if we had to recast, we would. - And we would. And we can. - And we have some ideas. - And we're about to. We've got some ideas. (laughing) Locked and loaded for you all. - [Natasha] So, first let's start with Neo. - Neo, great. So, Neo originally played by Keanu Reeves. I have recast it as Christopher Walken. (energetic music) I think that Christopher Walken has a distinct way of talking that I think would be pretty fun in that movie. The red pill is... - [Natasha] That's true. - One of the options that you don't know what's gonna happen yet. I honestly just think that his was of speaking would really heighten the drama. I'm gonna take the blue pill. - Oh, okay. - There's two pills. - That sounds like Marlon Brando a little bit. - There's two pills here. (laughing) - Okay, you wanna hear mine? - I would love to hear what your counterproposal is. - Okay, so if we're gonna redo it, let's do it in a different direction. - [Cory] Sure. - Let's think what could be a different tone? - [Cody] Yeah, so it's completely different. - So, I was like, let's put Seth Rogan as Neo. (upbeat music) Just his whole thing is like, "Huh? Okay?" - "Okay, ha, ha, ha, ha." He makes it louder than it needs to be. - That's good. I think he'd be so funny. - Do you think he's wakey and bakey throughout the movie? - For sure. - [Cody] Where he's like, "I'm too high for this decision, Morpheus." - [Natasha] Or I think whenever he has to make a big decision, he just smokes up a little bit. - [Cody] Takes a little bong or whatever. - Overall, it's just. I mean, Neo already I feel like is pretty reserved in the film but this way it's just like there's just a little more joie de vivre. - Do you imagine it as a stoner comedy or it's the same kind of... - Wow. Well, based on my other picks, I wouldn't say full stoner comedy, but I think it has elements. - Great. I like that. I think I actually prefer that to Christopher Walken. - I think I prefer Christopher Walken. - [Cody] Oh, really? - Let's do Seth Rogan, that's fun. - Okay, yeah. That's great. I think that's good. - [Natasha] Okay, so Trinity. Tough gal. - [Cody] Super tough. One of the toughest around. - Yeah, sleek hair, no nonsense. I would say that I think it would be cool if we instead of Carrie-Anne Moss had Helen Mirin. (mid-tempo music) I think it'd be cool, 'cause she's older. - Yeah, that's true. - Why not? Have an older lady be Trinity. Why's gotta be an equally-same-age lady? - Yeah. I'll tell you what. I don't really know a lot about Helen Mirin. (laughing) - [Natasha] She's British. She's very hot. - [Cody] That's cool. - And I think she brings a gravitas to the role. I also think of Seth Rogan and Helen Mirin is pretty funny as a duo. - That is a pretty funny odd couple, yeah. Okay, I hear that. I also read Trinity character as pretty stern, pretty straight-to-the-point and with that in mind, I thought another person that could really nail that role without tweaking it really too much is Ruth Bader-Ginsberg. (electric music) - That's a really, really good choice. - Thank you, I imagine her. - I like that we both went older woman. - Yeah, which I think is good. - I respect that. - And I think Hollywood if you're watching, maybe take note. (laughing) - Yeah, maybe wake up. - Maybe wake up a little bit. - Okay, Ruth Bader-Ginsberg, tough lady. - Tough lady, and there's always hard decisions they're makin' throughout the movie. There's times that when they're gonna give up and I imagine her cloak and gavel. - A very straight down the middle part just like Trinity. Hair sleek back. - [Cody] Very locked down. - But then she's got the adorable little collar. - Exactly and there's I think maybe no collars in the movie as it is now. - [Natasha] We'll put a collar in there. But the black robe is similar to a trench coat. - It is, yeah. - [Natasha] The outfit is very similar. - [Cody] That's amazing. - That's such a good choice. - Thank you. - I love that so much. - Yeah, just travelin' around being like, "No." - Oh, she should keep the gavel. - Of course, yeah. - And she fights them with the gavel. - She fights with the gavel and then when there's an important decision she gets to slam it down and make it happen. - Right. - So, I'm sensing you kind of are... - 100%, forget Helen Mirin. - Okay, cool. Sweet. So, we're taking RBG as Trinity. - [Natasha] Great choice. - And I think a great choice. - [Cody] Beautiful choice. - [Natasha] Wow, I'm really proud of us. - [Cody] Yeah, me too. - [Natasha] Okay, I really like my Morpheus choice. - [Cody] Oh my, God, good. Please. - [Natasha] So, Lawrence Fishburn is our original Morpheus. - [Cody] He crushed it. - [Natasha] Stoic, serious. Very powerful. He has that scene where he presents Neo with the two pills. "Do you wanna take the red pill or the blue pill?" - [Cody] Exactly. - [Natasha] But I think, why not have a more delightful spin to the movie. - [Cody] Okay, that sounds nice. - [Natasha] Which is why I think we should recast Morpheus as Rowan Atkinson. (upbeat music) - Wow. Mr. B. himself. - And he's got the two pills. - And he sneezes and one of them falls on the ground. He's like, "Oh, I'm so sorry." - And he's messed them up. - He tries to pick it up and he bonks into one of the machines and knocks out the guy. - Yeah. - Yeah, that's funny. - It would be so funny. - It would turn it into a comedy of errors, which is kind of his thing, right? - [Natasha] Yeah, he's battling the big robot machines but he doesn't even know that they're the bad guys. (laughing) He thinks that they're just vacuums or something. - Hey, can you imagine him still trying to have the levity of Morpheus? - I think everyone respects him. (laughing) - Everyone respects the shit out of him. - And it's like he's incredible but always he's just like (chirps). Or just accidentally taking pills. - That's so funny. (laughing) And I think that's really good. Well, my choice for Morpheus was Nick Cage. I like Nick Cage as an actor. I think he's so funny. But I don't even know if I feel like defending him in the face of Mr. Bean 'cause I think that's kind of the perfect choice. - Yeah, it's so good. So, we've decided Morpheus is gonna be recast as Rowan Atkinson. - [Cody] Yeah, I think that's right. Well, I really like my Agent Smith. So, maybe I'll go ahead and launch into that. Agent Smith, he's out to get Neo at all costs. His famous thing is that whenever he finds Neo, whose name is Neo Anderson. - [Natasha] Mr. Anderson, where is that from? - Whereas, Neo Anderson does not sound right. - Yeah, I think we're thinking of Louie Anderson. - No. Wow. Okay. - Is that... (laughing) Oh, no. - Well, my choice for Agent Smith originally played by Hugo Weaving is Louie Anderson. (upbeat music) (laughing) So, which instead of every time he does, "Mr. Anderson," he would just say his name which is Louie Anderson to Neo. There's so many of 'em all the time where it'll be a thing where it's like, wow there's a shit load of Agent Smithers. And if they were all Louie Anderson, that would be awesome. - [Natasha] That would be really funny. - There was 20 Louie Anderson's being like, "Louie Anderson, Louie Anderson, Anderson." (laughing) - That's very good. My thinking was Agent Smith, he moves around a lot. - Yes, certainly. - [Natasha] He's a big physical comedy guy. So, I would say Keegan-Michael Key is my choice. (upbeat music) - [Cody] That's fun, I love Keegan-Michael Key. - I just feel like he would do a good job. That was a genuine, earnest. I feel like he would do a really good job but also still be funny. - Do you think he'd be being funny and dramatic in the way that he is in a lot of the stuff he does? - [Natasha] Yes, correct. I think he's a jack of all trades. - [Cody] Can you do an impression of him saying, "Mr. Anderson" in that way? - Yeah, okay. I think he would go something like Louie Anderson. (laughing) - Yeah, that seems... - That's pretty good? - That seems right to me, personally. A personal opinion. - [Natasha] I think we know. We like Keegan-Michael Key a bit. - [Cody] It has to be Louie in the end. (laughing) It's always been Louie. It's only ever been Louie. Cool, shall we run down what we got so far? - [Natasha] Yeah, okay. - Cool. - [Natasha] For Neo, we have recast as Seth Rogan. - [Cody] For Trinity, we've recast Carrie-Anne Moss as Ruth Bader-Ginsberg. - [Natasha] Morpheus originally played by Laurence Fishburn, we have recast Rowan Atkinson. - [Cody] Beautiful choice. And finally Agent Smith originally performed by Hugo Weaving will now be played by Louie Anderson. Would you see this movie? - [Natasha] Yeah, I would make this movie, I think. - I think I would see the movie too. I think it would be absolute chaos. It would be a mishmash of so many different mostly senses of humor and then a Supreme Court Justice. (laughing) - If I may say, I think if all parts were played by Rowan Atkinson and Louie Anderson. - It would also be fun. - It would also be very good. - [Cody] Yeah. - [Natasha] All right, well that's our movie. (upbeat music)
