Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Joshua — what's happening to our couch?! We're changing it. We're changing it? Oh my goodness! [Life in Japan Theme Song] Oh my goodness! This couch is all but gone — almost! It wasn't as bad as I thought. No. You still have to put it together! Ha ha True. Yea, that's the fun part. Look how spacious it looks now. I know! Neo Bowser City. That's one of Ruth's favorites. We have a Mario Kart tournament going on here Because these two are gamers from childhood. We're so-so. And then Joshua... Is also a gamer from childhood! Intense! It's the last race! It's between Doug and Nate and Joshua and me! Gonna hold on — hold on for the win! Hurry Joshua, you can beat Daddy! Hurry, Joshua, go go go. 7th! Oh no! I'm not going to beat Daddy! Sarah, everyone beat me! Oh! Did you win? You won first! And the winner is Doug! We let our company win. No, I'm just joking! Alright, now I can really race! You beat me by one point. You beat Vicky. Oh you did! Look! By one point! That's right! We got rid of our couch! This is the full delivery service here. Oh, there's a person back there! Wow! Hi! We're smuggling... That's right — we're smuggling a ... couch. It's a couch. So this is what our couch looks like when it's all dismantled. It's going to go to a nice new home. Yea! Well our couch has a new home now with Doug and Vicky, And there's a big hole in our living room, we're going to be able to fill it with something new We'll see what — I don't know yet. How much work goes into editing? Oh my- it's just ridiculous amounts [of work]. Oh, it's so cute, so fun! The end project is wonderful. The process is— fun, but... but. You know, I love being a pastor. Being a pastor is like being a father of a spiritual family. And I love families, so it's just a natural fit for me! We're making families! You're making families?! You're making matches here? Mom, Dad. Wait, wait, which one? Mom, Dad? (Singing "Here Comes the Bride") This is the way that girls play with cars. They make matches and families. I know. And marriages. Well we just celebrated Valentine's Day — the day that the whole world celebrates romantic love — awww. But did you know that the origins of Valentine's Day go way back to the 3rd Century? The Roman Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage for his troops, thinking that they would fight better if they weren't married. Saint Valentine was a pastor who held up biblical views of marriage and would secretly marry the troops. Valentine was arrested and put in prison and there, awaiting execution, the jailer asked him to pray for his blind daughter. Valentine prayed and the jailer's daughter miraculously received her sight! The jailer became a Christian and was baptized along with many others. Right before Valentine's execution, he wrote a letter to the little girl and signed it “from your Valentine.” He was then executed on February 14, 269 A.D. Now, centuries later, we still send Valentine's cards to people we care about. But originally it was all about this priest who would marry people. What have you been doing here? Rolling the ball, trying to get all of these. Did you set up some sort of game? Yea, should I show you? OK, let me see. Oh miss! Try again. Oh, I got one! You got one! Yea, I'm going to get more than that. You're going to get more than that? 3, 2, 1 You got none, Dude! Wow- that was a little strong. You need to try to get all of these. All of them? 1, 2, 3... Oh! I did pretty good, huh? So we produce 4 different videos for the weekend. Of course there's Life in Japan at 7:00 PM, which I'm putting the final touches on now. And then at 8:00 PM we started a new channel with Ruth's uncle, Tim Huber. He is a pastor and has lived here in Japan for over 30 years And he has a channel that we launched which is about the meaning of life, all in Japanese. It's awesome. You should check it out. [speaking in Japanese] And then Ruth works really hard on getting Paz Kids ready each week. Paz Kids has lots of fun music, a good Bible story, All kinds of cool things that the kids of our church can watch as we are not meeting together during this pandemic Hey Becca and Anna, what are you guys doing? (Repeats in Japanese) Shhh! Why "Shhhh?" We are helping Mariam to hide Moses. (Repeats in Japanese) And then lastly is the actual Paz Church livestream which I help produce And this weekend I am preaching for it, so it's an extra thing that I get to do this weekend. My clip is exporting and... Momma chan is here, working on hers, getting it ready to go. Calling her lifeline. My lifeline! Paul Hrubik. I need help just with a couple little things. Yeah, that sounds good. I'm just trying to do a test for this Zoom call real quick Oh, ok. As soon as I'm done with that I think I can run over there. OK, sounds good. If you guys all want to come over, feel free. OK Just to get out of the house or something. OK great. Ok, thanks Paul. Bye bye. Oh!!! Is everybody cleaning up here? Yeah. Whoa guys, it looks good! Wow Only Reutter kids can come in this room. Only Reutter kids?! You are going in the room. Well of course I am. Please don't come in, please don't come in. Wait a second! We are cleaning up! Could this be a Reutter kid? No. Maybe the camera could be a Reutter kid for only a moment? Yes. It will be like your littlest brother? What are you getting ready for there Ruth? Tonight we're having a ladies' event on Zoom via our church, We're going to do a little bit of cooking, we're going to have a Bible talk, We're going to have a game and some stretches, And then a mental health talk. Mommy! Mommy! Speaking of mental health talk... Hey Dude. It's no boys! Oh, no boys Joshua! OK, well ladies, we're going to officially start. So welcome to our first ladies' night on Zoom! We're going to the kitchen to make bread pudding. You're going to get one slice of bread and you're just going to break it up. Almost! It's like watching water boil. It takes longer when you're waiting for it. While mommy and the girls are all upstairs, the boys are hanging out downstairs, huh? Zelda, A Link to the Past? Yeah. Is this the new game that we really go into? Yeah. Daddy played this when he was a kid, huh? What? You did?! Yes, I did. You played it when you were a kid? Yea I did! The one — this Zelda, I did. What?! Isn't that cool? And now you get to play it as you're a kid. And I was so excited with how many people joined! I know! And, like, people I wouldn't expect to join! There were some people I don't know. We've got our Paz Livestream Studio setup here. It's looking good! Over here, Daichi and Ben! Alright guys! About ready to go live? Hey Life in Japan! We're going to go live in about 20 seconds! (Repeats in Japanese) And these guys make it happen — Seth and Paul. Behind the scenes — these guys are incredible. One minute to livestream! Let's go! Let's go! Let's start this thing! Here we go! We're ready for a great first service (Repeats in Japanese) And God is alive and He is here with us today! (Repeats in Japanese) And He loves you! (Repeats in Japanese) And — so thanks for joining, we're going to have a great day at church. (Repeats in Japanese) Every week these guys pull off the magic. You don't see them, but they're doing it. Paul - what's the most challenging part of a livestream of this caliber? Everything's live, so if you make a mistake, everyone sees it! And you have to like fix it on the spot, as fast as you can. It's like: focus. A lot of concentration. Hey everyone, it's great to see you — or see a camera at least! (Translates to Japanese) I'm really looking forward to the day when we can get back together, meet together again here at Paz Coffee Shop. (Translates to Japanese) OK! We just spent some time with some friends, and now we're going where? IKEA! What do we need to buy? A sofa! A sofa. We need a sofa. We should buy a chair too there. Well, we still have a chair. Do you like the colors blue or yellow? Do you like things huge and cheap? Well then IKEA is where you go, right? Hi. Hi, how are you? Good. Good? What kind of couch do you guys want? A cool couch. A cool couch? A beautiful couch. An orange couch! An orange couch? My favorite color! Orange, uh uh. Becca, how long has it been since you came to IKEA with mom and dad? 3 or 2 years maybe? 2 or 3 years? That's probably about right, huh? I'm not joking. We wanted to go in the play place so bad. Yea — the play place is still closed. Here we go. Into the labyrinth. OK, so here you can get a measuring tape and pencils And this little booklet where you can write what you want, the price, and where to find it. Because you have to go into the warehouse and find your own things OK, we found the sofas. But Mommy does not want cloth. No cloth. No cloth. That's cloth. This is my future sofa. That right there? That is so orange! I found not cloth over there — see there's not cloth. Very excited, I think I found—oooooo, leather sofas. Ooooooo Uh oh, somebody hold Momma chan back! I don't like that one. I don't want to get this sofa. What do you guys think? This one is a good sofa. Is it nice? It is nice. Can't really afford this. Ok, hang on, should Daddy try this? Oh, yeah! If any of our viewers are IKEA investors, please send me a couch! This one is comfortable. This one is really comfortable! How does it feel? It's feels comfortable. Wait! Let me compare with this one. Oh yea, this one is more comfortable. What? Yes! I'm not joking! This one is harder than this one. And there's more around the corner. Oh yea. This looks familiar. These do. Got rid of our sofa to get the same sofa. Wait! It turns into a bed! Yep. It looks really deep, huh? It is really deep. What! We could just get a couple of chairs like this. How's your chair, Dude? World record fasted IKEA trip ever. Well, did we find anything we like Becca? Yeah, but it was too expensive. It was so expensive! The one that we all liked was the most expensive couch that IKEA sells So we're going to go look some other places It was 250,000 yen. We're going to go check out some other places, see if maybe there's a more affordable option out there. IKEA vs Nitori on sofa hunt. Here we go — see what Nitori has. Let's see. OK, here we go. Let's see if we can find a couch here. Well, we could just get one on the floor, huh? Oh my goodness! Choices, choices, choices. Look at this one. Look at mine! I would say there are so many good options here. We think we found one that... It's a little different. Could it be? Oh! This is better! Oh- let me try! This is what I want! And look at this! Look at this! We're buying a sofa, so we have to wait one month until it gets delivered! Yea, we were the very last ones here. Who knew that buying a sofa could be such a process. But we had the best salesman. Oh my goodness, he was so nice. He even walked us to our car, practically. That was amazing! There's a lot of space without that couch there, isn't there? So that's just a little look inside of our lives as pastors. If you have any questions or comments, leave them down below.
