Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Is gravy a mystery? Well, I'm going to show you how you can make your own chicken gravy. You know what? You don't need to buy this in a jar or in a can. You can make this at home and in your own kitchen. So what do you need? Well, you need to have baked a chicken and you can check out my other recipe or YouTube video for how to bake a chicken. So now I have a pan with pan drippings. Now these are the beginning of great gravy, now you need about equal amounts of fat to starch. Now I have about three tablespoons of pan drippings in here. To this I'm going to add about three tablespoons of flour, and then I'm just going to stir these together and make a wonderful, thick paste. So if you've ever made like a white sauce, or a béchamel sauce, or something like that, this is the same beginning. So I've got my flour in here and I'm just going to stir it in. You don't have to use any special techniques, just go ahead, and combine them and make a nice, thick, even paste, and this will come together like this. If you have a little bit more fat in, you can add a little bit more flour, but just let it come together like this. It's really easy to do. So now I'm going to switch over to a whisk, because nothing really stirs like a whisk. And I'm going to add in about 1/3 of a can of chicken broth. Now some people use milk, some people use water. I really think that if you're making chicken, you want to go ahead, and add in more chicken broth, because it really does help enhance the flavor. So I've added my chicken broth in and you can see this has come together. and become nice and thick. Now I have my pan on about a medium-high heat, so now it's time to add another 1/3 of the liquid, and that's all I'm going to do here, is add another 1/3 of the liquid. And as soon as it gets thick, well guess what I'm going to do? I'm going to add in the remaining liquid. Now you can see that is so easy to make your own home-made chicken gravy. Now this is perfectly seasoned right now. If you like, you may need to add in a little bit more salt or something, or a little fresh cracked pepper, but that's it. You can make your own chicken gravy at home. Hey, you YouTube'rs please go ahead and subscribe to this channel so you can see what I'm cooking up next, and for more recipes come to copykat.com.
