Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles - Hey guys, I'm Jenna Rosenstein, beauty director for bazaar.com. And today I'm gonna walk you through my updated nighttime skincare routine. (upbeat music) So you might remember me from the last time I shared my nighttime skincare routine. That was about a year and a half ago, and it was long, it was 19 steps. And I don't know about you, but I've had kind of a crazy year. And, you know, because of that, I've really pared down my skincare routine, and it's totally changed. In my new skincare routine that I've been adopting in the last year or so, I have about eight products or eight steps that I've been relying on. Although, you know, it's because of my job, I still have to test hundreds and hundreds of products every year. So I'll swap in, you know, products here and there, but the steps have really been narrowed down to only eight. It was 19, and now it's eight, which is not bad for a beauty editor, I think. So I'll give myself props for that. So last time I double cleansed, and now my cleansing looks a little bit different. So the first thing I do is I take off my makeup and then I double cleanse. So to take off my makeup, I use a micellar water, then now I do the second step of cleansing. And that is this Weleda Gentle Cleansing Foam. I used a micellar water with cotton pads, and a lot of comments were sort of yelling at me for using even organic cotton rounds. So I heard you loud and clear, because now I'm not wearing as much makeup. Like this is pretty much as much makeup as it gets these days. And it's really not that much. So I don't need to do a traditional double cleanse with an oil and a foamy cleanser. So I jumped right into makeup removing with my new routine, and I use these. So this is from Face Halo, and Face Halo also makes these, but so do a million other brands, and they're basically like a microfiber makeup removing tool. They're really cool. And you just wet it and rub it all over your face, and it removes the makeup without any cleanser or any other makeup remover. It's pretty cool. So I'm gonna go ahead and do that. Get close so you can see the makeup coming off my face. I like these little finger puppet ones, because they're great for around your nose and your eyes. All my makeup's coming off, including my mascara and everything. And I was wearing like a Benefit mascara today, which those are pretty long lasting. I'm done with the sock puppet one. And then I'll go on with this one too. Wet it. And then you'll be able to see the makeup coming off my face. Look at that. Gross. And the reason I used organic cotton rounds before in my old routine a year and a half ago was because I didn't have a washer dryer. And so, you know, these, you can wash them after every use. But now that I just moved to a house out in New Jersey, I have my own washer dryer. And so switching to more sustainable practices has been really easy, 'cause I can control my own laundry day and laundry schedule, whereas before it was a little bit harder. So after moving my makeup, I go in with a cleanser. I've been really loving this brand. It's named HoliFrog, I think. HoliFrog, HoliFrog, but they have so many different cleansers. This one is the Milky Wash. So it's a very, as the name suggests, milky cleanser. I just find it to be really gentle and really soothing on my skin. So I'll just wet my skin a little bit and then work this in. You can see how gentle it is. It's not foamy. I loved a foamy cleanser when I was wearing a lot of makeup. God, I love a foaming cleanser so much. Their my favorite thing, but now I feel like I just don't need it as much. Now I'm going to go ahead and wash this cleanser off. To do so, I'll use just water in my hands, but I also have this cool towel. This is from a brand called Resore, also cool towel. I never thought I would say that sentence before, but this brand, Resore, they make antibacterial towels. So face towels and body towels. So if you suffer from acne or any kind of skin condition, you like legitimately don't have to wash these for weeks because they have anti-bacterial and antimicrobial technology woven into the fabric. So now that I'm not wearing as much makeup, and some days I don't wear makeup at all, I always wash my face before bed, because that is when you want your skin to heal and rejuvenate. But in the morning sometimes I don't need an additional cleanser. I'll just, you know, get in the shower and wash my face with cold water, lukewarm water, and go on with my day, because I don't wanna disturb the natural oils on my face, since my skin can be quite dry and red. So you don't need to wash your face every morning, as long as you wash it at night. The next step is serums. And I have two products here that, honestly, I think I used in my last video You can check the tape for that, but this is Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair, and La Mer's The Concentrate. Of course, I'm always testing serums from other brands, but when it comes down to, you know, my routine that I really, really love to get my best skin ever, these are some of my two favorite products. And so using them, it really depends on sort of my skin and my routine that day. I think some of the best skin care routines are ones that you're not following just blindly, but ones that you're doing because you've taken an evaluation of your skin that day, and looked at what it actually needs. And so when I'm feeling like my skin is, you know, kind of irritated, I don't wanna put a ton of products on it. I just wanna like put one or two things on and go to bed. Then I'll actually use the La Mer Concentrate, because this is like a serum and oil combined. But if I wanna do a more involved routine then I'll use my Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. I think I said in my last video that you put it on, and you just really notice that your skin looks better the next morning. It's one of those products you put on your face, and then you wake up the next morning, and you're like, "Oh, I actually look better. Like, that's awesome." It's just true. So let me take a dropper size of this. And I'm just going to pat it onto my skin. Just all over. And I just think this really helps with fine lines and wrinkles, which, oh, boy, you can definitely see them. Look, ready? Look at my forehead. My forehead used to be frozen with Botox, and now I can't even look at it for too long. I saw my forehead in like one of those self-checkout mirrors in a grocery store the other day. And I was like, "Oh my God." I have not had Botox or fillers, gosh, since probably the end of 2019. I don't think I got them in the beginning of 2020. So it's been a really long time. I definitely have no lip filler left. I have no Botox in my forehead or on my crow's feet. Like my eyes, oh God, I can't look at it for too long. And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with wrinkles. It's really a personal preference for your own face. And so for me, I like when my skin is just a little bit more taut and frozen, because I'm very expressive, as you can see. And so I can get tension headaches. And when I have Botox, that doesn't happen. So I like that you guys liked that I talk about it, and I wish more people spoke freely about their cosmetic treatments too. So again, as I was saying, this La Mer is so rich that I feel like you don't need to chase it with a moisturizer, because there's so many oils in here, that layering a moisturizer on top of oils is not the correct order of skincare. So you really can get away with just this. Because I just put the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair on, and it's a really lightweight, sort of hyaluronic acid based serum, I'm going to go in with a moisturizer. The product I probably test the most, because it was just really fun and easy to test is moisturizer, but there are two that I've been loving. One that is a staple in my routine, and one that is new to me. So this is the staple, and I always butcher the name, but it's Augustinus Bader, I believe. And this is the cream. And then this one is from Covey, and this is Emily DiDonato, who's supermodel. She filmed an episode of Go To Bed With Me, funny enough. And because of your comments she started an entire skincare line, which I think is like the funniest thing in the entire world. So I've been really loving this. I also went through her entire face wash. I've been using her vitamin C serum. I just think she did a great job. So I'm just gonna take a little bit of this moisturizer and apply this on my skin and on my face. And last time, I think I said that I didn't always use moisturizer. And sometimes I'll use moisturizer and sometimes I won't. And that's still the case. If my skin feels like it's okay, and it's not super dry, and I could just get away with maybe the La Mer, then I'll use that. But in the winter, I'll really start to layer products. Now that it's turning to spring and spring time, my skin is finally been healing. It was so, so dry. So what I'll do is I'll put some moisturizer on and then I'll chase with a little bit of oil. Whereas in the winter, I would do the same thing, but richer moisturizer and a lot more oil. And then I always press into my laugh lines, and into my forehead, and into the lines under my eye. I just feel like inspired really needs some love. And then while my skin is still kind of dewy from the moisturizer, I'll go in with a face roller. And I did talk about face rollers last time. And I know it looks super funny, but it's my favorite thing in the entire world. This one is from Estee Lauder, and it's just a really beautiful cooling gold roller. And so I'll just roll along my jaw, and try and smooth out some of these wrinkles on my face, and really ease a lot of the tension on my forehead that I get because I don't have Botox. Not only do I really miss Botox, but there's a lot of beauty treatments I've been missing. I think the biggest one up until like a week ago was my hairstylist and haircuts. I legitimately cut my hair myself with a pair of Amazon haircutting scissors in the bathroom, because I just couldn't take it anymore. I was done. And I've been trying to be as safe as possible and minimize risks. So, you know, haven't been getting my nails done. I haven't been getting my eyebrows done. Haven't had a facial. All these things that were so normal to me in my job were just taken away. And I feel so badly for all of those industries and all those small businesses. So I just can't wait to go back and support them. I think the thing I'm most looking forward to is probably a massage, and a really, really good deep cleaning facial just to get all the gunk out of my pores. And then I'll feel like, okay, the world is back to normal. If my skin is feeling really dry after I put moisturizer on, or if my skin is feeling dry before I put moisturizer on, then I'll chase it with a little bit of oil. It's not something I adopted until kind of recently. I'm not the biggest fan of beauty oils, to be totally honest, but when your skin is suffering, and this winter really suffered, then you need an oil. And so there's two that I like to use. One is this Indie Lee Squalane Oil. And it's just like this beautiful bottle Look how clear it is. I just love it. And then the other is the Vintner's Daughter Active Botanical Serum. They call it a serum, but it's definitely an oil. And this one does have a very like natural scent and a golden color. It's a little bit more heavy duty. So this is like my winter staple. But if I just want a little bit of oil, Squalane, I think, is amazing. So I'm just gonna do like literally two drops, and put it in the places where I get kind of dry, and that could be around my nose. I'll put it around my eyes, around my lips. I always put it around my eyebrows. There, and I just think it seals everything in. It makes you look shiny and beautiful. I'm always rubbing everything into my hands. That has not changed. My hands have taken a beating in the last couple of months. As I said, I moved into a home, and I've been doing a lot of construction, and a lot of outdoor work and painting, and they just were gnarly. Like I looked like I had hands that were 100 years older than I am. So I've just been really, really careful about putting everything onto my hands. As you can see, they're still really red. In my last routine, in my last video, I said that I don't really believe in eye cream. Eye cream is one of those products that I'm kind of convinced doesn't do anything, because if there was an eye cream that truly healed dark circles, like everyone would be buying it. And that's still true. Like, I really just think that a really good moisturizer can kind of do the same thing. I know they're formulated for the eye area, I get it. That being said, I still use eye cream, because I'd rather just, you know, rather be safe than sorry. And you know, the jury's still out. So I still use an eye cream pretty regularly. I don't know if I use it every single night, but I do use it regularly. The one that I have out right now is this Sobel Skin RX, and this is the Triple Oligo Peptide Eye Cream. And it promises to depuff, smooth and brighten. Oh, it's just like shooting out at me. It's crazy. Partially, my routine is shorter, because of the last year that we've had in COVID, and partially because I feel like, you know, because I just moved, I just haven't unpacked anything yet. So I've been using this eye cream since we moved for the last month. So I'm just gently tapping it in under my eyes. I mean, I still have crazy dark circles. What can you do? It's why concealer exists, you guys. And I get it all the way around my eye, and that's it, that's my eye cream. Does it, you know, brighten and depuff? I don't know, but it just feels really good, and it feels like soothing and moisturizing. So who knows? I'll report back. A year and a half ago, I really loved those Moon, like black flossing sticks. To be honest, I had been sent them. I was testing them because that's my job, but oh my God, the comments you guys, like, I get it. They were plastic. I do my best to be as sustainable as possible. And in fact, I think I've done a pretty good job in the last year and a half, because when COVID started and I couldn't go to the dentist, you could probably see them waving around in my hand currently. But when COVID started, I couldn't go to the dentist. And I'm somebody who loves the dentist. I love to have really clean white teeth. And so I went on Amazon and I bought professional dental tools. It's kind of gross, but like, it's a beauty ritual too, and it like feels so good. And I don't have to use those like wasteful floss sticks anymore. I have professional dental tools. Now, these are only two of them. I have an entire set. So if you're like me and you love clean teeth, go on Amazon. They're awesome. So another step I do, not every night, but just sometimes, that I didn't really do before, is a mask. I wasn't a huge masker a year and a half ago or the last 29 years of my life. I'm just not a huge mask fan, but because I haven't been getting facials regularly, I'm finding that doing a mask at home just feels really good and it makes me feel like my skin is clean and makes me feel like I've had a little bit of a facial. So I've been adopting a lot more masks recently. The two that I have out right now on my vanity are this one from Dr. Loretta, and this is a tightening detox mask. So it's a lightweight gel mask. You can just smear on, wipe it off after 20 minutes, or you can sleep in it, which I think is great, because if you just get really tired and you don't wanna wait 20 minutes, just fall asleep and wipe it off in the morning. And then this one is a cool little mask pod that I was testing for work. This is from Valmont, and it's the Detox O2 X Pack, the Face Oxygenating Bubble Mask. And this is a little pod. You smear it on your face. I did this with my husband last night. You smear it on your face. It goes on like a cream. You wait a couple minutes and it starts to bubble and foam. And when you rinse it off, your face feels like minty, like as if you just chewed gum, and like took a sip of water, like, you know, that feeling? That's what your face feels like. So it's been a nice fun thing to do in this quarantine time. So my last step in my skincare routine is lip balm. And it's still lip balm. I think it was lip balm before. I mean, it's cupcake icing. I don't understand. It tastes so good. So that's funny. You can tell I had lip injections in that clip, and I don't have them anymore. I'm still using a lip balm, and I'm still using Laneige, but not the same Laneige. The one I'm using now is this one, which is the Lip Treatment Balm. What's cool about this one is that it has an applicator on the top. I don't know if you can see that. Let me do that again. Ready? And so you can apply the lip balm with that, which I think is so great in the age of, you know, COVID and not touching your face and all of that. It's really hard to formulate a super, super moisturizing and occlusive lip balm in a tube, because you'd have to squeeze it out. So the ones in the jar are great, except you have to put your fingers in it. So they've really sort of solved that issue with this subtle applicator. So I'll put that on. I like to put a lot on. (lips smacking) This one. Doesn't it like cupcake icing, but it doesn't taste bad. What does it taste like? It's a little fruity, so still a delicious taste. But I just think the applicator is so awesome, and it just keeps everything really sanitary, while at the same time, giving you a lot of moisture on your lips. So that is my updated nighttime skincare routine. It's been so fun to show you. And if you have any questions about anything I'm using or why I made any of the changes that I have, feel free to drop them below. I'll go through and answer some of them. Just be nice, please. And I'll see you guys, I guess, in another year and a half. Bye.
