  • hi there jennifer from tarle speech with your pronunciation question

  • today's question is how do i pronounce railroad which is a track for trains or

  • a system of trains let's take a look

  • at these words my tip for you today is to think of these

  • as two separate words and try to put a slight pause

  • between the syllables that is going to make this so much easier

  • to say so it's okay to say i like the rail road instead of i like the

  • railroad so you can link those together super

  • quickly like i just did and that's fine but i do think if this word is difficult

  • for you really think about adding that super slight pause in there and that's

  • really going to help you pronounce this word so let's start with

  • syllable number one rail to say this

  • square tense lips for that r the tongue is either going to be pointed down or

  • flipped back just do not touch your teeth then move to the long

  • a and to do that you're going to open and then smile

  • and then touch the tip of the tongue to the back of the top

  • front teeth rail

  • rail

  • rail rail rail then for road again start with that

  • r move to that o by puckering and then touch the tip of the

  • tongue to the back of the top front teeth for that d and allow the air to

  • puff out your voice box is going to be on and

  • moving for that d sound road

  • road road road let's put that all together rail

  • road rail road railroad

  • railroad railroad railroad railroad railroad

  • and now for a sentence i love hearing trains pass by on the railroad tracks
