Everything you go through in life, the good, the bad, and the ugly, make you the person that you are today. About three and a half years into practicing law, I realized I liked what I did, but I didn't love it. So, at the age of 30, I quit a well-paying job and went back to school to get my Ph.D. in economics. And I've never looked back. It's easy to get scared off leadership positions because you're afraid of stuffing up or because you don't think you can do it the same way as the person who came before. Don't do it the same way. Find your own way. In the last five years, I have given birth to two beautiful boys and received a confirmation. Be the person you want to be, not who others tell you you should be. Well, I'm not sure my 20-year-old self would have listened to me, but I would've liked to be more confident in my own judgment and in my skills. Be passionate about what you do. I have never chosen a position for power or money. Those things don't matter to me. I love to teach. And I love researching the big questions that matter to me and society.
