  • Yes.

  • Hey guys, welcome back to my channel.

  • My hair is in that awkward stage where it was like really short and now it's like medium length, which I'm not a fan of.

  • So I need to get a haircut soon.

  • I wanted to talk about something that maybe nobody asked for.

  • It's something that's really interesting.

  • I wanted to compare what Japan doesn't have that America has.

  • So what doesn't exist in Japan but exists in America.

  • For those of you who don't know, I'm from michigan, from the U.

  • S.

  • And there's a lot of things that I realized Japan doesn't have that America does not necessarily things I miss, but some of these things are things that I miss.

  • So we're going to just jump right into the video.

  • Things that exist in America but not Japan.

  • Number one.

  • Lawns, grass grasses in nature.

  • You can go hiking, you can go to parks and stuff and seek grass, but lawns don't exist in Japan.

  • Nobody has a backyard and if they do, they're a little bit more wealthy or they have an apartment on the first floor that's kind of a back has kind of a backyard.

  • It's very small with like nothing but some garbage and clothes hanging outside, but it's really, really rare to find lawns.

  • I miss the sound of lawnmowers when I used to hate them like so so much, but I miss the sound, I miss the smell of freshly cut grass on the roof right now in some building.

  • This is the only place that you'll see a lawn in Tokyo.

  • This is rare, that's cassie, oh my God, I just want to sniff it.

  • That doesn't exist here in Japan and it's kind of a bummer ice cream trucks.

  • Remember when we were kids and we could hear the ice cream sound coming down the street and then we ran, rushed outside without our parents almost in the street and almost getting hit by cars.

  • We don't have that.

  • I don't even know if they exist in America anymore.

  • Instead, Japan has sweet potato trucks.

  • You'll hear a whistling down the street goes.

  • I always wondered what that sound was.

  • And then finally one of my coworkers was like, oh, that's a sweet potato truck, but I kid you not, sweet potatoes are the most delicious thing.

  • It tastes like a cake, but it's a healthy cake.

  • It's so delicious.

  • Japanese, sweet potato is my favorite and a lot of desserts here have sweet potato in it.

  • The greatest thing to eat during the winter.

  • So they do have those and they don't have ice cream trucks.

  • Not sure if I miss ice cream trucks so much.

  • I think a lot of kids love them, but sweet potato trucks are kind of for everybody tipping, tipping does not exist in Japan.

  • You do not tip waiters or waitresses and if you do, I guess I heard it's kind of offensive.

  • I'm not really entirely sure you don't really tip for anybody's service as a waiter or waitress or tip at all.

  • Even at a hair salon, you don't tip.

  • That's just the rules here.

  • There's no tipping.

  • I feel like it's like that around the world.

  • America is like the only one that does tipping.

  • Am I wrong?

  • Am I right?

  • Please comment down below garbage disposals.

  • I miss garbage disposals in Japan.

  • We have these little sink things with nets in them.

  • You have to buy them separately and you put them in your sink and then you push the food down into the net and then you have to take it out, throw it away and put a new woman every time.

  • Every time it's kind of gross.

  • I really really miss the easiness of just throwing the food down into the garbage disposal and having it rip it to shreds.

  • But that does not exist here in Japan as do large dishwashers.

  • You can't really put anything in a dishwasher unless you're super rich.

  • You can buy dishwashers but they're super small.

  • They're like little boxes maybe on amazon or something.

  • I don't know.

  • But they're not really worth it.

  • So yeah, no garbage disposals and dishwashers.

  • What about your country?

  • I'm kind of curious about that as garbage garbage disposal is a thing in other countries.

  • I don't know.

  • Mm hmm large portion sizes.

  • I think this is something that a lot of people know about already large portion sizes do not exist in Japan if you order something, it's going to be a normal portion size that you should be eating in japan, I really don't mind that, I feel like I eat a lot less than I do when I went to America, I was like dang, this is a lot of food.

  • I was like in culture shock at that point.

  • I was like, I don't even think I can finish this.

  • But yeah, if you expect to eat a lot, you have to order a lot.

  • The imperial system for measurements in America, we measure things by pounds or feet instead of centimeters and kilograms.

  • It doesn't exist in japan.

  • America is the only one that uses that type of imperial system.

  • It's just how it is because we're weird.

  • I'm trying to get used to Celsius and instead of Fahrenheit and but I'm still kind of in that mode.

  • Like I weigh this many pounds or I'm still kind of stuck in that.

  • I don't know why I've been living here for so long, but I'm just like stuck there, take home doggy bags so if you go to a restaurant and you can't finish your meal.

  • Well tough luck, you cannot ask for a take out bag.

  • They do not have those here.

  • Maybe they do at american restaurants like T.

  • G I Fridays, they do have that here in Japan, but in regular Japanese restaurants there is no such thing, you better finish all your food chatting with strangers in America, I feel like if you're standing in a line, you're bound to talk to somebody nearby.

  • If you're waiting a really long time where you're in a group with people, people smile at each other.

  • It's just kind of like we see you, we notice, we notice each other, but in Japan people kind of keep to themselves, which can be kind of frustrating because there's a lot of people, older people that need help and a lot of people just kind of brush it off or walk past these people that need help and there's a drunk person on the train or a drunk girl on the train that's on the floor, they'll walk over her and pass her up.

  • It's just like, it's kind of rude.

  • It's, it's really sad to see that it's something that I wish that would change here in Japan, but in America it happens quite often more than not.

  • So yeah, that's something that's very interesting and strange that only exists in America maybe other countries as well.

  • They don't have Uber, there's no Uber drivers, you can't call an Uber.

  • The taxi system here is big, you would call a taxi, you wouldn't call an Uber, they do however have Uber eats and that's relatively new in Japan now this one is kind of crazy, like this is something that doesn't exist in Japan and it's prom and homecoming, Japan has no dances in their schools, it's usually a Matsuki, which is like a festival, so school festivals are very common but dances don't exist.

  • So asking someone to prom does not exist.

  • That's one thing that I really didn't think about when I was talking about my prom to my husband.

  • He was like, what's that?

  • So prom and dances don't exist in schools.

  • I think that's so interesting.

  • Hot water in public bathrooms and no dryers.

  • This is a very common thing in Japan in America.

  • They always have hot water options in Japan.

  • They do not if you go to a bathroom, it's always cold water and sometimes they don't have a place to dry your hands.

  • So it's good to carry a towel.

  • Sometimes they don't have soap so you should carry a little bottle of soap around.

  • They do have those miniature travel soaps that you can carry around and the water is just not going to be hot.

  • So be prepared to bring some hand sanitizer if you're traveling.

  • Those are some things that exist in America that don't exist in Japan.

  • If you guys have any other ideas and live here or notice something that I didn't please comment down below.

  • If there's anything that's the same about America, that's the same with your country or different in your country.

  • I'd love to hear about that as well.

  • But I think this is a very interesting topic.

  • The next video is going to be about things that exist in Japan but not America.

  • So be prepared for that video as well.
