I was genuinely really scared for the first time during an earthquake. Luckily the building i was in was actually quite safe. In 1995 there was a massive earthquake in Kobe and after that the Japanese government implemented lots of rules to make new buildings modern and safe and much more stable during an earthquake. The building that the Abroad in Japan studio is in was built long before those rules were implemented and so I imagine the shaking was really bad and I'm just hoping that something in the studio is still intact but i'm on my way now to inspect the damage with Natsuki and Sharla, so let's go and see what went down. Let's go and see if there's anything left. Most shops and restaurants are shut that I've seen today but convenience stores are open. You can never shut a convenience store in Japan, but they're running with less fresh food than usual so no sandwiches for anyone. Moment of truth. Go on then. Oh god. Woah. Not off to a great start. Not the hat rack. God. I've just put the lights on so... Oh no not the light, oh god. Oh god, there's water all over there. Woah. Where did all the water come from? That's not good given all the electronics. Kind of glad I wasn't in here when this happened though this would have been absolutely horrifying. Where's the water coming from? It's coming from over there. There's water here and here. Oh my god. Did anything stay on the wall? Oh god. Oh god. I think it's the water that I'm worried about the most. I'm not going to switch all the lights on here obviously. No. No! Everything's better now. There we go. For the most part though, at least most of the studio is intact and hopefully the water we can solve that but the Gachapon machine didn't do so well unfortunately. Oh yeah it's literally floating downstream. There we go, good as good as new. Honestly i'm really glad that we weren't in here during the earthquake this would have been like really terrifying. Hopefully the lights work as that's the thing I worry about the most because all of these lights in the studio are connected to one switch and I'm not going to flick it just yet obviously because there's water. But hopefully it all still works. I think this is the worst bit, the bit where I actually feel a little bit emotional, mainly because I really love this Manekineko I don't know where the production team got it from maybe they're quite easy to buy. Probably are. But still I love this. It's my favorite thing in the ramen shop and now it's smashed to pieces and that's kind of sad. We're gonna need to buy a whole new ramen shop effectively. Also Natsuki just bought towels. Thank you Natsuki. You've saved the day. Even though I think we're gonna need more towels for this. Obviously some people might be wondering why I didn't screw things down more or protect them from the earthquake and yeah maybe I should have taken more precautions but honestly I've never felt an earthquake like that. You just don't think that can happen something like that. I've never experienced that level of shaking and honestly I'm really happy that this didn't come down or that didn't come down. That did come down, but we've managed to upright it even though the ceiling is a little bit scratched. But yeah for the most part it's okay and hopefully once we get the water sorted we can get back to normal pretty quickly. But thank you guys for all the kind words. Hopefully there won't be another one anytime soon. Touch wood. Because honestly I really don't want to have to go through that again. That was really kind of traumatizing and unpleasant the first time i've actually thought "Oh I'm gonna die now" during an earthquake and I don't want that to happen again but Thanks guys and I guess I'll keep you posted. Time to get sweeping up. I feel like Cinderella and she's been forced to tidy something up after the Wicked Sisters have had a rough night out. God that's horrible. Emptying dirty water into a bag to tip it into a sink. - Oh very busy yeah. Thanks Natsuki. Hard worker and a good slipper. No no not again.
