  • This is a chunk of uranium ore.

  • And yes, this sample is radioactive.

  • But we did speak to professionals about how to properly handle this stuff, so we're taking

  • all the necessary precautions, but you know, don't try this at home.

  • Now the rest of this ore is just regular rock, plus some elements like lead, thorium and

  • bismuth that the uranium is slowly decaying into.

  • And this, this is a Geiger counter.

  • It's measuring the levels of radioactivity around it.

  • But what's setting it off isn't the uranium. It's the lead thorium, bismuth, all that stuff

  • we were just talking about.

  • And in case you're wondering, this is considered weakly radioactive, but we don't want to be

  • hanging around it all day.

  • Now this small piece of rock is called uraninite.

  • This actually contains a much higher concentration of uranium.

  • Think of it as a bunch of uranium just packed tightly together.
