  • Hi everyone, my name is Mike sterling, I am lucky to be the creative director of Beano, but I also have another job title or director of Mischief and of course that's very important when you have to work with people like this.

  • I've been working at, you know for 25 years this year.

  • So, so I I guess I'm about you know history or at least I'm historic, the cobwebs have been wiped off for this today and I can't wait to speak a bit about how much I love Dino, but also how much I love history.

  • All the best ideas that you ever read and you know have come from the imagination of a kid.

  • Now, sometimes it's a big kid like me because to work, if you know you have to do something very important, I think everyone should do more of and that's think kid put yourself in the kids shoes, walk in their shoes, do what a kid would do and what that does is that frees up your imagination and lets you do really cool stuff.

  • Here are my top secrets about being all that I have never told anyone before.

  • Beano Town was actually first settled by Vikings.

  • It's a story thing that myself and my friend Craig created and that's because we both love history.

  • All the original team that set up in 1938 went away to fight in World War Two and the good news is they all came back as well.

  • However, Bill kept printing during the war to keep kids spirits high by making a fool of the Enemy.

  • So the Beano editor and also the star artist at the time, Douglas D Watkins both ended up on a Nazi hit list.

  • The first ever Dennis was sketched on a scrap of paper with a pencil and that's where he was invented.

  • But even better than that, the first Nasher was simply a squiggle and the direction to the artist then for Nasa was to take Dennis's hair, which we all know was that, that, you know, the messy mop of hair to scribble it down and to add eyes, legs, a tail and those and most of all teeth, big teeth.

  • And so that's what nationals most famous for.

  • So it's as simple as that to create a comic character.

  • And I think that's a great fact for everyone to know.
