  • - [Christopher] Finding new customers

  • means expanding the number of prospects

  • for your marketing efforts.

  • Shotgun marketing isn't effective

  • and you can enhance your marketing results

  • by importing quality data from trusted sources.

  • We'll use a comma-separated values file for importing data

  • and most people simply call them CSV files.

  • Let's go ahead and minimize the browser.

  • I've prepared my CSV file

  • and I put it here on my computer desktop,

  • and we'll be importing this into Salesforce.

  • Let's go ahead and have a look at it.

  • I'm going to resize the column

  • so you can see the data better.

  • Make sure that the names are split into separate fields

  • and also separate addresses into their columns,

  • such as street address, city,

  • state, postal code, and country.

  • Separate each unique phone number

  • into its own column as well.

  • And you'll save time if column headings

  • are labeled the same as the Salesforce field names.

  • That way, Salesforce can automate

  • recognizing the field mappings.

  • And you should use a template,

  • that'll make things faster.

  • Please also know that you're limited to 50,000 records

  • per import file.

  • Let's head back over to Salesforce

  • and we'll go ahead and import this file.

  • We'll need to be signed in

  • and we're starting from the Home tab.

  • Let's go ahead and click on Leads.

  • Now, here on the Leads tab,

  • you'll see an Import option

  • over here on the right-hand side.

  • Now, we can also find this option

  • on the Accounts and Contacts tabs as well.

  • Let's go ahead and click on Import.

  • Now, this launches the Data Import Wizard.

  • We're importing in the leads,

  • so over here on the left-hand side, let's select Leads.

  • And then we'll be adding new records,

  • so let's click that option as well.

  • And let's scroll down.

  • We don't want to be swimming in duplicate data,

  • so we'll have the Import Wizard prevent duplicates

  • from being introduced into the system

  • using the lead record name

  • as the field for checking duplicates.

  • And that's right here, use the pull down.

  • Now, let's go ahead and assign our lead source,

  • so we know where the leads are coming from.

  • Experienced marketing professionals

  • know the value of tracking and measuring lead sources.

  • Now, let's locate the CSV file on the computer.

  • I'll go ahead and click on the CSV option

  • and I'll go ahead and click Choose File.

  • Now this file is on the computer desktop.

  • So, we need to find it by using this pull down here

  • to select All Files and we'll see the Leads to Import file.

  • Then, we'll select it and we'll click Open.

  • Now, let's click Next.

  • Because the names in each column heading of my CSV file

  • match exactly to the Salesforce field names,

  • all of the field mappings

  • have been completed for me automatically.

  • Now, if the columns on your CSV are named differently

  • than the standard field names in leads,

  • you'd need to map them manually.

  • Now, let's go ahead and click Next.

  • Everything looks good,

  • so we'll go ahead and click Start Import.

  • Importing records into Salesforce saves you time and money

  • since data does not have to be rekeyed.
