hey guys!!
welcome back to Tokyo
I'm down here for a couple days to do my monthly
packing for my stationery business with
my business partner Ushka!
Or I would be
if she hadn't tested positive for COVID yesterday,
but luckily Ushka's house is divided into two
there's the airbnb area down here where I always stay,
and her house is separate
so Ushka is currently quarantining in her house at the moment
and I won't get to see her this trip at all,
which is a bummer but luckily
because her house is separated I could
still come here and get our work done for our business
so here in Japan when you test positive for COVID
the government actually sends you a free
care package so that you can stay inside
your home and you don't need to go out
for groceries so that's what these
three giant boxes behind me are this is
her care package that just arrived
I got the delivery for her and she's kindly
enough allowed me to open it for you
guys and show you what's inside what you
get here so there were some posts going
around on twitter and instagram that
went kind of viral and everyone was kind
of confused as to how the Japanese
government free care package system worked
these aren't for anybody that's just quarantining so when
I came back from my trip overseas and I
had to quarantine in my house for two weeks
I wasn't eligible for one of these
but if you've tested positive you are
eligible for one of these you just need
to contact your local health center and
apply for it and they will have somebody
come deliver it to your house
supposedly there is one week's worth of food inside here
I'm very curious to see what kind
of things they have sent the packages
are quite large so let's open them up
and see what's inside
*music and rustling*
oh wow
all right so the first thing we have is
two packs of caramel corn these are
a really sweet treat with roasted peanuts
in them I do like these
these caught my eye these are really
yummy they're kind of like
an energy bar like a quick snack to take
on the go you can get these at the
conbini they're made from soy this is
strawberry and this is the chocolate and
almond version ooh next we have some
tarako spaghetti sauce tarako is a cod
roe I believe
and some pasta to go with it this is
like the most popular brand of pasta at
the supermarket so they haven't cheaped
out here they've given us the good stuff
green tea with
some matcha powder in it
50 bags very generous
oh i've never seen these before these
are
liquid
calorie mate so calorie mate is like an
energy bar it's kind of like a meal
replacement bar they have quite a few
calories in them and they're supposed to
just be something you can quickly eat on
the go that has some vitamins and
minerals in it and I guess these are the
liquid version we've got
café au lait and fruit mix flavor don't
know what those taste like the bars
themselves are pretty good though so
probably pretty yummy five six of those
six cans of those next we've got some
tanuki
tempura soba
another famous brand lots of fruit
jellies
five fruit jellies jelly with chunks of
fruit inside
beans
mixed beans I think these are cooked you
can just eat them as is
two packages of those
chicken daikon chicken and radish this
is like a
pre-cooked meal dish that you just need
to microwave or boil in hot water
little packages of salad dressing
don't know
what they expect you to eat those with
I don't think they give you any fresh
produce in these packs we will see in
the next box
oh another fruit jelly that makes six
and a can of mixed fruit
four harusame soup noodles this one is
egg flavor and this one is seaweed and
vegetable
oh green dakara this stuff is really
good this is kind of like a sports drink
to replace any minerals you've lost from
sweating a lot very common to drink this
when you're sick so it's nice that they
give you a bottle of this another can of
mixed fruit two bottles of vegetable
juice that looks very tomatoe-y
not my favorite hopefully Ushka likes
tomatoes more than I do and some more
ready meals this is oyakodon
it's a traditional japanese dish with
eggs and chicken and you put this over
top of rice and this is chukadon which
means like chinese rice bowl so it's
kind of like a chinese style dish
these are ready to eat you just need to
heat them up you could eat them cold if
you wanted to but highly recommend
microwaving them and that is it for the
first box let's see what's in the second
one
oh this one comes with some
pamphlets so this is a guide for
quarantining while you have the
coronavirus it's quite extensive
wow
the Japanese Government also offers to
send you a pulse oximeter if you want to
measure your oxygen levels Ushka was
feeling not too bad so she didn't opt
for that but if you would like one they
will send one with your food box for
free this is amazing so this is a list
of every single item that's included in
these boxes and all the allergens that
are included in each product
that is very kind of them all right
let's see what's inside wow again lots
of very interesting stuff
starting off with some kanten kaisou sarada
so this is seaweed salad I think you
just need to add some water to this and
it rehydrates I've never had this before
actually but it looks kind of good this
looks like something that would be great
for when you're not feeling too good a
ginger vegetable soup with barley and
soybean meat might be vegetarian
actually
two more soups this one's minestrone
okayu I thought I would see some of
this in there so
back home our traditional
when you have a cold get better food is
chicken soup here in Japan it is okayu or
rice porridge so
they have sent six packages of okayu
this one is ume flavor plum flavor and
this one is just a plain rice flavor so
you can add like veggies to these or
meat it's um a savory dish some more
instant noodle packs champon harusame
and
ume harusame noodles another version of
calorie mate
interesting fruity milk flavor
I didn't know calorie mate came in
jelly form looks like they have two of
each flavor two apple and two fruity
milk and two pocari sweat you guys
probably have heard of this
again this is a drink that you're
supposed to have after doing sports to
replace all your minerals electrolytes
some more instant noodles this is
kitsune udon udon with a deep fried tofu
pocket on top cookies
french butter cookies
some seasoning for your rice this is
goma shio sesame salt
lots of spaghetti sauces
arabiata this is like a spicy tomato
sauce
tappuri meat sauce just a regular
sauce
four of those I can't believe how much food
is in here it's endless
some more instant foods this is curry
and curry spicy curry and sweet curry
a package of miso soup there are 12
servings inside this is seaweed flavor
cans of tuna very nice
two more instant noodles
here's the main one that everybody wants
the rice there are 10 servings of rice
in here so this is supposed to be a
week's worth of food so
about a pack and a half a day a bottle
of pocari sweat to replace those
electrolytes and two bottles of iced
coffee
and that is it for the food boxes
and this is the
final box they give you
six two litre bottles of
mineral water
so that is everything here is a look at
everything all together
I am
so impressed with how generous they were
there's a lot of food here this is
supposed to be seven days worth of food
I would say this is more than enough for
seven days these calorie mate drinks are
supposed to be a meal replacement so
several meals just right there
amazing
well I hope that was interesting for you
guys I hope you're staying safe out
there let me know if your country does
anything like this I think this is
pretty awesome of the Japanese
Government to do it certainly helps you
out or else you'd be stuck inside and
it'd be kind of difficult to get food
for yourself without having to actually
go out to the grocery store so good on them
thanks so much for watching you guys I
will talk to you again very soon bye for
now
