  • Love, it's an incredible thing, but I noticed something about love.

  • Whenever we're in it, we tend to do or say some strange things

  • Like Triangle Bob trying to impress his vegetarian date by wearing a broccoli costume.

  • Broccoli Bobwe gotta work on that wardrobe.

  • But first, this video; cue the intro.

  • Hey, there; welcome to Life Noggin.

  • Being in love can feel amazing, but with that good feeling can come a downside.

  • A lot of people say love can make you stupid.

  • Believe it or not, researchers have actually studied this.

  • In one experiment, they evaluated the cognitive control of volunteers who recently began a romantic relationship.

  • This study included 43 participants that were tasked with distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant information, which tested their ability to focus.

  • The degree of their love was determined through a questionnaire.

  • The researchers found that the more in love the volunteers were, the less focused they were, which means that their cognitive control was impaired.

  • The authors of the study theorized that this inability to focus is caused by the infatuation that takes place in the early stages of a relationship,

  • when people can't stop thinking about their new partner.

  • That's not much of a surprise, considering each stage of romantic love is associated with a surge of hormones.

  • These stages include: lust, which is driven by testosterone and estrogenattraction, which is created by dopamine, serotoninand norepinephrine; and attachment, which includes oxytocin and vasopressin.

  • They're all here at this party and we're feeling great.

  • Nice moves, Q-bot; Greeg, what... what are you doing?

  • Most of these hormones directly affect the brain and are responsible for the emotions involved in romantic love.

  • For instancedopamine makes you feel giddy and euphoricwhile oxytocin makes you feel cuddly.

  • But the impact on your brain doesn't stop there.

  • Studies have found that, in addition to activating the parts of your brain associated with those hormones,

  • love can deactivate other important areas of the brain, like the ones you need to make good judgements.

  • This is the frontal cortex.

  • And researchers have found that when volunteers were shown a picture of their partner, MRI scans of their brains revealed that this portion of the brain shut down.

  • They also found deactivation in the amygdala, which regulates fear, and areas involved in negative emotions, including the frontal cortexparietal cortex, and parts of the temporal lobe.

  • So, when you're in a relationship, you're basically a happy, fearless idiotin a loving way, but that may be a good thing.

  • The authors of the study believe that by suspending rational judgment, people are more likely to get together and procreate, which is, ultimately, a win for the human species.

  • I don't know what Q-bot and the gumball machine are gonna makebut I just hope they're happy.

  • But, of coursethis could make you miss some major red flagsso, don't ignore your close friends or family if they point out some concerns.

  • They may be able to help you see through those rose-colored glasses.

  • Triangle Bob, you can't just paint all the red flags white; that's not how this works.

  • So, have you ever been in love?

  • Do you think it makes you do some strange things
