  • And Google has announced another round of layoffs with more than 700 people being let go.

  • And despite these cuts, tech analysts say other companies are still looking to hire people with tech skills.

  • KTVU South Bay reporter La Monica Peters is live tonight at Google headquarters with more on the layoffs. La Monica.

  • Mike, most of the job cuts came from departments here in Mountain View and Sunnyvale and tech industry. Insiders say despite those cuts, other companies still want and need tech workers with those skills.

  • The roles that we're still seeing growth in regards to software developers, QA testers, QA engineers.

  • We're still seeing those exact roles from those that were let go.

  • Beginning in March, over 700 jobs are being eliminated by Google, making this the fifth round of job cuts since last September.

  • Employees working on Google Assistant, Fitbit fitness trackers, hardware for Pixel, and next thermal stats are being let go.

  • Tech recruiter, Celeste Shoot says artificial intelligence may play a role in how Google is restructuring, but skilled tech workers are still in high demand.

  • It's not replacing, or not specifically saying, "We don't have AI here," but very much those candidates' skills that they were utilizing there are still very much needed in other industries and other companies.

  • Core engineers and jobs and augmented reality are also being eliminated at Google, which announced last year that it planned to cut 12,000 jobs from its workforce.

  • Right, we're seeing the growth of AI a lot more than we had expected, I think, many of us.

  • And especially consumer adoption and business adoption has been so fast that it has forced a lot of companies including the tech world to rethink the way they do things.

  • Tech analysts say Google is competing with other major tech firms to be a leader in artificial intelligence.

  • And Sherr says that goal is key to who they fire and hire in the future.

  • Now, we need people who are really good at training and programming and really designing how people will use artificial intelligence.

  • Now Sherr also says that no one really knows when the job cuts in the tech industry will slow down or in, but he says AI skills will continue to be in high demand in multiple industries.
