  • Well, tonight's news we hope we'd never have to deliver in this country.

  • Mass killing at Sydney's biggest shopping centre.

  • Terrified shoppers run for their lives from a man wielding a knife,

  • stabbing people, including children.

  • I've seen a baby with stab wounds.

  • A baby?

  • Yeah.

  • There's a baby getting wheeled off by the ambulance.

  • I was hiding in the back room and I was just hearing gunshots.

  • It was just like the worst thing ever.

  • As a result, there were four female women deceased in the shopping centre and one male, and subsequently another female passed away in hospital, taking it to a total of six.

  • The devastating scenes at Bondi Junction are beyond words or understanding.

  • Australians will be shocked this evening.

  • From preliminary enquiries, it would appear that this person has acted alone.

  • If in fact it is the person that we believe it is, then we don't have fears for that person holding an ideation.

  • In other words, that it's not a terrorism incident.

  • He was just walking like he was having an ice cream in the park, you know?

  • And then he went up the escalators at Zara and then probably within about a minute, we heard three gunshots and that was it.

  • A single unit officer, inspector of police, was nearby, attended.

  • He was just about to ready to go on another more rampage and she told him to put it down and then she shot him.

  • The police officer that attended was enormously courageous.

  • She took the actions that she did, saving a range of people's lives.

  • That's confirmation of who we are, brave, strong, together.

Well, tonight's news we hope we'd never have to deliver in this country.
