Hello, hi. So we are just exploring, we're out enjoying the beautiful weather. We are in
Seochon today and my bus - little speed demon over here - arrived 30 minutes before literally
everything opens so I am sitting here on this bench in the shade, enjoying my time.
And there will be coffee and snacks in our future.
We managed to find a shady bench, one of two in this entire
park. The daisies - this is like the first year that we're seeing all the seasons of this park.
This is right by anguk station (as always all locations are in the description box) but
this is my first time, I had no idea there were daisies until I passed this on the bus and
so I was like 'got to come back.' Stunning. Poppies, daisies, I forget what those blue
flowers are called - corn flowers I think? It's just so nice so I'm going to sit out here on
my bench, enjoy it, read a little bit, and I'll see you at home okay!
If there's mascara running down my face, ignore me. My eyes are super dry, it looks
like I'm crying. I love flower people. I love flower people so much. I just took a bunch of cute
pictures for this very adorable couple who were struggling. I'm going to head home just because
a giant spider thing, honestly I don't know what it was, landed on me and kind of killed the vibe
to be honest. But I also need to go home cuz I'm starving, but what a beautiful day,
what a beautiful day!
So an empty one of those - like as an American, I know what those are, I haven't
ever ridden one I don't think but like I know what those are - at the cafe I was sitting at
one of them passed the cafe and the two girls sitting at the window seat
had this long conversation trying to figure out what the hell that thing was cuz there
were no people on it. They were like is it a trolley? It said - it says tram, is it like a Hong
Kong tram? They were yeah they were struggling but yeah those are new to the city fun fact.
Hello, hi. It is Friday and today is an exciting day. I have to film a book video hence
the setup if this looks familiar - I don't, I've only filmed two videos here so maybe it doesn't look
familiar - anyway book video in the works. I have to film and hopefully edit it today and have it sent
over. Tonight, I'm actually meeting up with Cindy and Ellias! Virtual book friends. They are
in Seoul and so I'm going to hopefully have dinner with them if they aren't too tired because they
are running around. So that's exciting and then this weekend I'm seeing a bunch of friends so
today is going to be a little hectic and I need to focus and do some work so I will see you at
lunchtime - hopefully by then I will have finished a video and will be in editing mode so I will catch
you then but yeah I'm reading a really good book. I'm actually, the video I'm filming is about all
the, my favorite books that I've read in the year so far. But I'm reading a really good one right
now called Library of the Unwritten if you like books about books and books about libraries and
like feral hilarious intimidating scary librarians. Literally it's about a library in hell and it's
so fun. I'm having such a good time. I wanted to try and read more of it so that I could talk
about it in this upcoming video that I'm filming, so that's why I went to a cafe this morning. I'm
at 42%? And also just to comment on the coffee scene in my new area - it's a very, there's a lot
of like office buildings I guess, just a lot of office workers are around so I feel like
there's a lot of competition with all of the cafes. There's a lot of coffee shops first of
all and second of all I think that it drives the prices down so even there's a couple cafes around
here that are very, they look bougie like I could walk in and not be surprised if they're lattes
were $7. But because of the area, no one would go - like no one's going to get a $7
latte in this area so all of the cafes, the americanos are maximum 3,000won, $3.
But usually they're 2,000 which is like a $1.75? Snd I only get americanos, so that's what I'm
doing. I'm very happy. I was worried cuz you never know in Korea, but we got really lucky
and the caf's open early because people are coming to work early - jackpot. Very pleased I'm
really loving our neighborhood. We've already found some good restaurants that we really
like - that was actually quite sad, the day that we moved, the final day like I guess it
was Sunday, we came back and we did like the final cleaning of our house and then we
were in the neighborhood so we got there's a Chinese place that we went to literally like
four times a week probably and we told the owner that we were leaving and he was like "oh but you'll
come back right? you have to come back!' like :( Yeah maybe we will, we'll make a little trip. Anyway
so just it's a great day. Filming a book video, I will see you guys for lunch okay okay bye!
You know. Where do you think I am? I'm meeting
bookish friends - where do you think I am? What do you think I'm buying?
Okay a little difficult to talk, a little noisy. We're in Mangwon because I'm meeting up with Hennie
who I haven't seen in over a year and we're going to Always August wish we both love and
hopefully there are seats!
Hi from Hannamdaegyo, I am on a bridge and it is bouncing
really hard which I hate. We're going to go see Nathan at a cafe, do a little
book exchange - I have no books for him but I'm bringing him some skin care because I
just can't have him keep giving me stuff and not returning the favor so sorry it's so loud, see you!
Sorry in case you couldn't hear me on the bridge, I'm here to meet Nathan. I got here
a little bit early so I'm just walking - we're up at like the Nansam area. Because
it rained all day yesterday, it's so green and it's so wet. The ground is still really
wet so it's just this wonderful temperature and just like it's so cool in the shade. I
actually was just answering comments on my new video and someone asked me like how
do I manage my mental health? And honestly it's really just like getting near trees
listen - it's like how lovely? That's what does it for me so anyway, there
are so many cars I'm not supposed to talk to you right now apparently. I'll see you!
Hi, hello. I'm about to settle in for a nap. It's that time of month and I need it so
I'm going to read my book until I fall asleep but speaking of books, a mini book haul. Nathan was
so generous, oh my God. So I have four books to share with you all. Some of these are loans,
I will be giving them back but I'm happy to have them in my company for a bit. We have the
employees - a little bit of lit fi sci-fi and Jeff Vandermeir is quoted on the back, he did a
blurb. And we just talked about how Annihilation by Jeff Vandermere scarred and traumatized both
of us so it's got to be a good sign. So I'll be reading this. This is an arc for - More Days at
the Morisaki Book Shop. The sequel. Look at that cover! Also Miranda July's new novel All Fours.
I grew up, like in college, I must have read No One Belongs Here More Than You, a collection of short
stories by Miranda July, maybe a million times. She had a short story in there, it might have
even been the first one in the book, where she is a swim instructor in a place where there's no pool,
no water to speak of. So she like goes to these two elderly people's apartments who want to learn how
to swim and like teaches them how to swim without water. I don't know why that's - I literally haven't
read that book in probably 10 years - stuck with me though. So very excited to dive into her new
book and then I was reading this on the bus and Nathan gave this to me because he mentioned
that there aren't a whole lot of books set in San Diego. You know New York, LA, San Francisco, Chicago
like all these big cities tend to have books set there but San Diego doesn't get quite
that rep and so this is a kind of collection of short who knows what - little musings little
stories. It's almost like a diary to be honest, kind of revolving around San Diego and it seems so far
like revolving around food - yeah it's absolutely revolving around food. I'm only on 23, I've only
read three of the stories and I need to, I stopped because tomorrow we need to go to Muji and buy
some highlighters because I need to mark this book up so much. It is so good. And remember how
if you go back to when I was just in San Diego and I was talking about the very distinct smell of the
city that I had almost forgotten until I got back there? The very first page of this book, they are in
Little Italy, they're dining and dashing so they have grabbed their food and left without paying
and so they're running through the streets of Little Italy trying to eat their eggplant
parmesan before they get caught by the like door man. And Little Italy, for those who don't know,
it's, San Diego Little Italy is right near the water. It's just like a couple blocks away from the
harbor so I mean anywhere in downtown San Diego you're going to get like this very distinct ocean
smell. "As we run I can smell the marinara and fresh basil and beyond that the harbor. The smell of the
bay. Salt water and boat diesel and hot tar. And then for the smallest second as we pass a row of
darkened houses, there's the candy scent of night blooming jasmine.' And just the second it said like
the candy scent of jasmine, as you're like running past a house - yes like that's something that I feel
like every yard has a different flower growing in it and you just get caught off guard by like
a sudden whiff of honeysuckle, a sudden whiff of all the various kinds of jasmine or like that
lemon what is that plant? So yeah I just I felt I immediately understood this author because he
honed in on exactly what brings me to California immediately and he even talked about how scent
is the kind of strongest memory holder that we have so I had I literally I put it down because I
was like, got to reread this so that I can underline it. Very excited. This is called After Tonight
Everything Will be Different by Adam Gnade - is the G silent? Really excited about this. So thank you so
much Nathan. This is everything. So yeah Kurt and I are just going to get dinner and be lazy for the
rest of the day so I'll see you tomorrow. I'm going to probably grab some coffee, do some writing
/work and then hit muji so that I can continue to just devour this. Also I love that it's printed =
it looks like a beat up old, like look at how this looks as if it's been like opened a ton and
so it's been broken. That's just how it's printed. This is a pristine new book but it has like stains
which I also love. And just that burrito I'm - it's torture looking at that burrito to be honest. But
here we are. So okay I'll catch you guys tomorrow, thank you for being here thus far, see you!
Once again, the vibe thrown off by a giant spider.
this was white - I've never seen a like perfectly white spider. Also how [ __ ] fast it was moving.
It landed right there, slapped myself, it fell off of me. I didn't scream but I definitely did
like a EEEE! So it's beautiful out but I'm going to go sit, I'm also feeling a little dehydrated
it's that time of the month I'm being like extra gentle with myself, so I'm going to walk to the convenience store
instead and get myself some water and sit where perhaps there will not be spiders. It seemed like
they were dropping from the trees and I just couldn't, I couldn't keep sitting under those
trees knowing that at any moment a spider could drop on me so yeah civilization, reading, got my
highlighter.
Okay we are back home. Clearly the house is still not done. We're selling that table, we still haven't
hung our our art. We're taking our time. We're in no rush. We signed a 2-year lease. Anyway so I'm going
to kind of end the video here. I need to just kind of clean the house. We're having actually a
new boiler installed tomorrow which is exciting so just going to kind of clean the house - he needs to
like get into the bedroom and make a mess so I'm going to kind of whatever. This has just been such
a week filled with friends and even next week - again everyone is here in May - just going to see
a lot of people that I love and I'm very excited. So thank you for coming along this week. I feel
like something about the way that I...I'm, I have to like I have to reflect on why this vlog feels
different but even as I was editing it, this vlog felt like a vlog I made a really long time ago.
Like this feels like the style that I like, maybe it doesn't feel that different to you but I just
felt like while I was editing it I was able to capture and express the things that I wanted to
and I find that sometimes like for last week, even though I am proud of that video I felt
like because I kind of had a theme, I had a bigger vision for the video and so I kind of let myself
down. You never really make exactly what's in your head so I think for this week I was just
sort of like, I'm going to hang out with friends, going to do a couple cool things, not going to put
too much pressure on myself and I just filmed as I just really naturally would and it turned
out I think really nice. Or I just feel more at peace with it and and more comfortable
with what I made and more proud of what I made. So anyway I'm very happy with this vlog. If you stuck
around till now thank you. I'm drinking more of my - it's actually mango pineapple papaya tea
excuse me - from Pannikin, thank you Susan. Just feels very summery. This house, okay, knock on wood - we have
a bigger space now right? Which I mean first of all, takes me significantly more time to vacuum
let me just say that. But number two we're kind of concerned because we have more windows
and more space which typically means it will take more energy to cool it down especially because we
have these gorgeous south and west facing windows, we get so much sun. In our little one room, north
facing - it was great. And we just aren't, we won't know until we know [how high the bill will be] We can guess but we won't know
until we know. But yesterday I came home and it was quite warm, it was like a very nice temperature but
still. I came home and Kurt was at work (even though it was Sunday, I know. I went to play
with my friend, he went to play with his work) so I come home and I could have sworn Kurt turned the
air conditioner on and left it on. And we haven't used it yet - we turned it on just to make sure it
worked and that it was clean but other than that we haven't had to use it - and so I was shocked I
was like today isn't that warm why would he turn it on and then leave it on while he's gone. Turns
out, our windows don't just open like this way, they also open they do like a ventilate so it
was just the wind was so crisp and cool coming right through the top ventilation, it felt as if
cuz our air conditioner is also right there, it literally felt like the AC was blasting and
that is a very good sign. I know that it also isn't humid yet so that will change the game but so far
the breeze that we get in this house anyway....Yeah I will catch you guys later. Thank you again. Sorry
for my, the end of my videos I always just like ramble and here we are, here we are again. So I
will catch you guys next time. Also if you haven't watched - me complaining about rambling and then
here I go - if you, I got a lot of questions, I got a lot of comments about Chappell Roan, I don't even
think I've ever said that out loud, who we've all apparently can't stop listening to - if you love
especially the song Femininomenon and you haven't watched Bottoms or vice versa, do those things. Do
those things. Anyway okay now I really will let you go because I need to actually get some work done
and I will catch you guys next week. I already have um some stuff picked out. I'm hitting cafes
with patios. I'm trying to be outside as much as possible before it gets impossible to go out.
I will see you then and thank you as always okay catch you later bye!
