  • My name is Kevin Mouton.

  • I am the head basketball coach at Second Baptist.

  • I am also a cancer survivor.

  • The day I was diagnosed with cancer, I didn't believe it.

  • I didn't.

  • I just thought I had a common cold.

  • I just wasn't feeling well, you know, and I'm kind of sleepy, I'm tired.

  • I started having some slight headaches, and my wife says, you okay?

  • I said, why is that?

  • She goes, well, your breathing seems a little labored and you're kind of snoring while you're watching TV.

  • And I'm like, what?

  • Are you serious?

  • And I had no idea.

  • So she goes, we got to go see somebody.

  • They took, I had to come in and they put me to sleep and they reached in there and took a specimen basically, and that's when things changed.

  • My proton therapy, it saved my life.

  • Dr. Gunn, Dr. Hanna, Dr. Alton, those teams, I just felt I was going to be all right.

  • My case, I thought I was the, everything was about me.

  • I was educated as I was going through the process on the medicine, on how I was going to feel.

  • We had a certain little bond between us, and I felt that they were really sincere on how much they really, truly cared for me.

  • In coaching, you have to be very precise in who scores for the opponent, who does this for the opponent.

  • This is what they did in the last four or five games.

  • And I think that put me in a position where how can I prepare myself every day, no matter what happens, to be able to fight through whatever adversities I'm about to have.

  • I firmly believe that God gave me another chance to impact other people.

  • I want to thank the team from MD Anderson.
