  • Intelligent people are a commodity.

  • I know it sounds completely strange.

  • How many students today get perfect scores on SATs?

  • How many students today get 4.0 GPAs?

  • So many.

  • The volume of smart people coming out of school is insanely high.

  • And that is good.

  • And the reason for that is because humans are becoming more and more intelligent, better and better skilled at, of course, physics, math, and the foundational sciences and arts and philosophies.

  • That's completely true.

  • And so you're going to be competing against a very large number of insanely intelligent people.

  • And every company is founded by insanely intelligent people.

  • And we're surrounded by insanely intelligent people.

  • And so the question is, why do some people lead and others less so?

  • And why do some people stand out and achieve such incredible things?

  • And this is one of those things where you're blessed to have been raised Chinese.

  • One of the characteristics of Chinese, of course, is the ability to tolerate long-term pain and suffering.

  • If you've been raised by a Chinese parent, you have enjoyed a lot of pain and suffering.

  • Isn't that right?

  • And so, in fact, the ability to endure pain and suffering is called grit.

  • G-R-I-T.

  • Grit.

  • It is now recognized as one of the most important characteristics of successful people.

  • And so I wish upon you a life-long...

  • plenty of pain and suffering.

  • Thank you.

  • Thank you.

  • Thank you.

Intelligent people are a commodity.
