  • Hi guys, it's Saskia and I'm here with Chris from IELTSdaily, and today we're here at my university and we're going to be answering some rapid-fire questions from part one of your IELTS exam.

  • So if you're ready, let's go!

  • So the first topic I want to talk about today, Saskia, is quiet places.

  • Do you enjoy spending time in quiet places?

  • I do.

  • I feel like sometimes I can be a very solitary person, so being around quiet with a nice book is something I really enjoy.

  • Where do you tend to go for a quiet place?

  • I like strolling through the museums, but sometimes either a nice quiet park or even just walking around the suburbs that, you know, don't have too many people.

  • I find that really relaxing.

  • Talking about walking, I want to talk about walking, so shall we go and do some walking?

  • Great, so let's talk about walking.

  • Do you like walking?

  • I love walking.

  • I love going on walks.

  • I really just enjoy it.

  • Just be careful when you're walking here.

  • I am being careful, don't worry about that.

  • Great, so who do you go walking with?

  • Sometimes by myself, but especially during COVID, I like to go for walks with my friends.

  • It was a good way to get out while still adhering to social distancing rules.

  • Yeah, what's your favourite place to walk?

  • Around the city or through the parks.

  • Fantastic.

  • Speaking of parks, tell us a little bit about your favourite park.

  • My favourite park at the moment would be maybe Carlton Gardens, close to the city.

  • Okay, what do you do in the park?

  • I just like to go for walks, maybe occasionally go around for a run.

  • There's a lot of people who come walking their dogs in that area and they always like to let you play with them.

  • Wonderful.

  • I want to talk about driving now, so let's talk about driving.

  • All right, let's talk about driving.

  • Do you drive?

  • I don't drive in Australia, but I do have my licence back home.

  • And how old do you need to be to drive in your country?

  • If I'm not mistaken, you have to be 18 to get your full licence.

  • What's traffic like here where you live?

  • Because I walk around a lot, I don't really get affected by the traffic, so I don't really notice.

  • But it's always occasionally that if I take an Uber, I might end up getting stuck in traffic.

  • But that's on me.

  • Poor timing.

  • Is there more traffic here or in your country?

  • Because I drove in Sri Lanka, I did feel it more.

  • But I think every country has traffic, particularly at peak hours.

  • I really want to talk about the sky.

  • So are you happy to talk about the sky?

  • I do enjoy looking at the sky.

  • I think cloud watching is a lovely pastime.

  • And do you prefer to look at the sky during the day or at night?

  • Well, because I live in the city, even though the night sky is absolutely stunning, the light pollution means you can't always enjoy it.

  • But the sky at night, if you do happen to live in the countryside, is absolutely beautiful.

  • Are there any places you go to look at the sky?

  • There's a park close to where I live that has a nice hilltop and you can watch the sky and you can watch the sunset as, you know, the day fades into night.

  • Interesting.

  • So I want to talk about old buildings and let's talk about an old building and go and see one.

  • Hey Saskia, let's talk about old buildings.

  • Do you like old buildings?

  • I love old buildings, particularly buildings like this.

  • I think they stand out in a crowd and the architecture is impeccable.

  • Do you like old or new buildings?

  • I do have a special place in my heart for old buildings, but that's not to say that new buildings don't have their plus points as well.

  • And in the future, do you think you'll see yourself living in a new or an old building?

  • I can see myself living in an old building with new fittings.

  • There's nothing worse than a winter morning when you're waiting for your water to heat up.

  • Fantastic.

  • Now, I want to talk about sport.

  • That's the next topic.

  • So let's go and do some sport together, all right?

  • So let's talk about sport.

  • Sport is wonderful.

  • Do you play sports?

  • No, Chris, I'm not the sportiest person.

  • I'm sorry, I have to say.

  • Are you from a sporty family?

  • I would say that I am, sort of.

  • We do love to watch our sport.

  • And my brother was very involved with cricket and kicking around the footy at school.

  • Let's talk about sports in your country.

  • Do they play a lot of sports?

  • Sri Lanka is very, very big on our cricket.

  • And what about running?

  • Are you a runner?

  • I do like to run.

  • I like to go for runs occasionally, especially early in the mornings.

  • And then I do have a bad habit, I have to admit, of running to go straight and get a cup of coffee.

  • Great.

  • What about a coffee?

  • Let's go and have one now.

  • I would love one.

  • Thank you for joining us today.

  • I've got my coffee.

  • But if you are interested, I will be back with more part two IELTS Daily practice exams.

  • Until then, good luck with your exam.
