This video will demonstrate a proper way to perform a
pre-donn check of an SCBA.
The pre-donn check consists of 11 steps.
The first step is to check the pack and harness straps for
cleanliness, good repair, and functionality by ensuring that
all the straps are extended fully for
ease of use when donning.
Step 2, check the cylinder air gauge to ensure that the
cylinder is within 90% of full.
Step 3, turn on the main cylinder valve, listening for
the activation of the low air alarm in the
integrated PASS device.
The main cylinder and remote gauges should
read within 100 psi.
In step 4, listen for air leaks while checking the
condition of the high pressure lines.
Step 5 is to check the PASS alarm.
There are three steps to this process.
First allow the PASS device to automatically alarm.
Once this occurs, shake the SCBA to reset.
Next, allow the PASS to go into full alarm.
This time, reset the alarm manually by depressing the
reset button twice.
The third step is a manual activation.
Activate by pressing the manual button and silence
again by using the reset buttons.
The sixth step is to check the face piece for cleanliness and
extension of the straps.
In Step 7, connect the face piece to the regulator.
Hold the face piece against your face, and take a few
breaths to ensure proper operation of the inhalation
and exhalation valves.
Step 8, shut down the main cylinder valve.
Open the emergency bypass valve.
And bleed down the air slowly.
Step 9, listen for low air activation while watching the
gauge to see at what pressure the alarms sounds.
Step 10, close the bypass valve and restore the unit to
ready condition.
Step 11, complete all necessary paperwork as
required by your department

This video will demonstrate the process for changing an
SCBA cylinder.
The first step in the process is to loosen the cylinder
harness strap.
The second step is to release the high pressure line
cylinder connection.
Step 3, remove the empty cylinder.
In Step 4, check the O ring.
O ring good.
Steps 5 and 6, replace the cylinder, reconnecting the
high pressure line.
Step 7, re-tighten the cylinder harness strap.

This video demonstrates the donning of your PPE and SCBA
for a simulated vehicle response.
This process consists of 17 steps.
The first step in the process is to accomplish
accountability.
The second step is to donn your hood so that it lays flat
across your shoulders, chest, and back.
Step 3, donn the turnout pants, ensuring that the hood
is under the suspenders and that all
fasteners are fastened.
Step 4, donn the turnout coat, fastening all fasteners,
including the collar.
Step 5, sit down and donn the SCBA
shoulder and chest straps.
Step 6, donn the SCBA waist strap.
Step 7, donn the seatbelt.
Verbalize, seated and belted.
Seatbelt belted.
Step 8, open the SCBA air cylinder fully.
Step 9, donn the SCBA face piece neck strap.
Step 10, pull down the hood.
Step 11, donn face piece, starting with a lower than
mill straps.
Step 12, perform a five-second face piece seal and exhalation
valve check.
Step 13, pull up the hood and check for exposed skiin.
Step 14, connect the regulator to check for normal air and
emergency bypass valve operation.
Step 15, donn the helmet and tighten the chin strap.
Step 16, donn gloves.
Step 17, unbuckle the seatbelt to stand
and exit the apparatus.

utilizing the simulated cab seats, where each firefighter
is assisted and evaluated by their coaching partner.
This team of firefighters successfully completed the
donning of their PPE in 1 minute and 26 seconds.

This video will demonstrate the process for navigating a
wall stud space from a standing and seated position
by utilizing the swim method and consists of three steps.
The first step in the process is to sweep and sound the
floor prior to entering the restricted area.
In step 2, back up to the wall stud space, raise your right
arm, and pass it through the opening.
Step 3, rotate your body while raising your left hand and
swim through the opening.

This video will demonstrate the process for navigating a
restricted area, other than a wall stud space, and consists
of four steps.
The first step in the process is to loosen your shoulder and
waist straps.
For Step 2, sweep and sound the floor prior to entering
the restricted area.
In step 3, roll your SCBA to one side, narrowing your
profile, and navigate the restricted passage.
In the fourth step, re-tighten your
shoulder then waist straps.

This video demonstrates the donning of your PPE and SCBA
from a standing position, utilizing the coat method.
This process consists of 15 steps.
The first step in the process is to donn your hood so that
it lays flat across your shoulders, chest, and back.
Step 2, donn your turnout pants ensuring that the hood
is under the suspenders, and that all
fasteners are fastened.
In Step 3, donn your turnout coat, fastening all fasteners,
including the collar.
Step 4, open the SCBA air cylinder fully.
In Step 5, donn the SCBA harness, placing your arms
through the shoulder straps similar for donning a coat.
Step 6, secure and tighten the chest and shoulder straps.
Step 7, donn the SCBA waist straps and tighten.
Step 8, donn the SCBA face piece neck strap.
Step 9, pull down the hood.
Step 10, donn the face piece, starting with the lower, then
middle straps.
Step 11, perform a five-second face piece seal and exhalation
valve check.
Step 12, pull up the hood and check for exposed skin.
Step 13, connect the regulator to check for normal air
emergency bypass valve operation.
Step 14, donn the helmet, secure and
tighten the chin strap.
Step 15, donn the gloves.

of four steps.
The first step in the process is to prepare for navigating
the space by loosening the shoulder,
chest, and waist straps.
Next, remove the shoulder strap opposite the low
pressure line.
In the third step, navigate the area while
protecting the PPE.
In Step 4, reconnect and tighten the chest, shoulder,
and waist straps.
