The first step is to check the pack and harness straps for cleanliness, good repair, and functionality by ensuring that all the straps are extended fully for ease of use when donning. Step 2, check the cylinder air gauge to ensure that the cylinder is within 90% of full. Step 3, turn on the main cylinder valve, listening for the activation of the low air alarm in the integrated PASS device. The main cylinder and remote gauges should read within 100 psi. In step 4, listen for air leaks while checking the condition of the high pressure lines. Step 5 is to check the PASS alarm. There are three steps to this process. First allow the PASS device to automatically alarm. Once this occurs, shake the SCBA to reset. Next, allow the PASS to go into full alarm. This time, reset the alarm manually by depressing the reset button twice. The third step is a manual activation. Activate by pressing the manual button and silence again by using the reset buttons. The sixth step is to check the face piece for cleanliness and extension of the straps. In Step 7, connect the face piece to the regulator. Hold the face piece against your face, and take a few breaths to ensure proper operation of the inhalation and exhalation valves. Step 8, shut down the main cylinder valve. Open the emergency bypass valve. And bleed down the air slowly. Step 9, listen for low air activation while watching the gauge to see at what pressure the alarms sounds. Step 10, close the bypass valve and restore the unit to ready condition.
