  • To throw the perfect punch, you need to put your thumb across your palm like that, and then bend your fingers over, and then punch in the face.

  • No!

  • That is totally wrong.

  • Never throw a punch like that.

  • On this video, I'm going to show you how to throw the perfect punch, so if you're ever in a situation where you need to throw one, you're going to know exactly what you need to do.

  • My name's Tony Jeffries.

  • I'm an Olympic medalist boxer, and on this YouTube channel, I give you everything boxing, so make sure you subscribe for more videos like this, and let's get straight into it.

  • First things first is figuring out which is your dominant hand.

  • Which hand are you right with?

  • Throw a ball with?

  • Pick your nose with?

  • That is your dominant side, so you want to have, if it's your right hand, your right foot back, and your left foot in front of you.

  • Now you want to have a line in between your feet.

  • One foot on one side, one foot on the other side.

  • When you get in your boxing stance, you want to get your feet just a little bit wider than your shoulder width apart.

  • Now moving up, moving up to your knees.

  • You always want to have loose knees.

  • If you've ever been on a surfboard or a skateboard, you've got them loose knees there.

  • Now moving on to your hip position.

  • You don't want to have your hips parallel, or you're going to be a large target.

  • You want to have your hips pointing at a 45 degree angle.

  • Moving up to your arms and your hands.

  • You want to have your hands up by your face, your dominant hand back, your lead hand just in front of your face, and your elbows tucked in.

  • You never want to have your elbows up like this, because again, it's going to make you a larger target.

  • Now the last and final thing is your head position.

  • You want to have your chin down and looking up through your eyes like this, and this right here is the perfect stance to throw a punch.

  • Now it's important when you're throwing punches to land with your big knuckle here, because this is the strongest knuckle, and it's on line with the bones in all your arm here, which will only make your punch stronger.

  • It's pretty common in boxing where people break their little knuckles.

  • This is the most delicate knuckle.

  • Now if you're fighting and you hit someone in the elbow, and you're not punching correctly straight on, and you hit them with that little knuckle, guess what's going to happen?

  • You're going to bust your hand open, and if you bust your hand open in the middle of a fight, yeah, you're in serious trouble.

  • And you can definitely trust me on this.

  • As you can see from my knuckle here, I've had multiple surgery, broke my hands multiple times, so I know all about how not to do it.

  • I learned the hard way, so by you watching this, you don't have to learn the hard way.

  • Now moving on to throwing punches.

  • Now when we're punching with our left hand, we want to step with it.

  • When the punch lands, the foot lands.

  • This step is going to get the power into the punch.

  • Now working on your dominant hand, your power hand, the one that you pick your nose with.

  • When you're throwing this one, you want it to come from your face, come all the way out, all the way back, turning your hip.

  • When you turn your hip, that is transferring the weight into the punch.

  • When you transfer the weight into the punch, guess what?

  • You punch a lot harder.

  • When you are throwing these punches, something you need to always think about is your hands need to come back to your face after every punch.

  • Your non-punching hand needs to be by the face.

  • No matter what punch you're throwing, bring them hands straight back to your chin to help protect you.

  • So one important thing to do when you are throwing the punches, whether it is the left or the right, is turning your hands at the end.

  • This is going to make your arm even stronger.

  • Rather than this, we're going to turn and that will help increase the power as well.

  • Now a big thing when you are throwing punches, you need to stay relaxed.

  • How to stay relaxed is by exhaling when you throw the punch.

  • If you hold your breath and you throw the punches, guess what?

  • You're going to get tired.

  • You're going to get tired very, very fast.

  • Exhale, breathe.

  • You've heard boxers, they make all sorts of different noises.

  • Pick your noise, pick your poison and use that noise.

  • I just like to exhale when I throw my punches.

  • So with these tips, the correct boxing stance, the loose knees, the punching with the correct knuckle, the fully extending the arms, the turning the hips, the exhaling, staying relaxed.

  • That right there is how you punch correctly.
