  • Hi there and welcome to this Roland Tech Talk.

  • I'm Casey Bartholomew and in today's video I'm going to be talking about Roland's popular ball screw driven actuator, the TH.

  • Now the TH is an extremely versatile, high precision actuator that's well suited to tackle many of the linear motion challenges that are common to today's manufacturing environments.

  • With the max load capacity of over a thousand pounds and a max travel speed of over a meter per second, the TH is a great option for many of those short to intermediate length actuator applications.

  • It's also a great choice if you need very precise and consistent motion as its accuracy and repeatability are both within five microns.

  • Now Roland produces four different sizes of the TH.

  • Here with me today is our TH 110, but we also offer a TH 70, 90 and 145.

  • And every TH that Roland produces is cut to length per the specifications of our customers.

  • The max travel that can be had is right around a meter and a half, so about five feet.

  • And in order to meet the needs of a variety of applications, every size of TH is available with a selection of ball screw diameters and leads.

  • That way, if your application needs short, precise motion or long, quick strokes, we can tailor a unit to meet the needs of your specific job.

  • Now, in addition to a precision ball screw, the frame of the TH houses two profile linear rails, and each linear rail can be configured with either one or two slider blocks, so two or four total per system.

  • And these slider blocks feature an all steel construction and are mounted to a carriage assembly rather than using a solid integrated carriage.

  • This actually increases the load capacity of the system and makes it a lot easier to service.

  • Now, another benefit of this dual rail design is the TH's high moment capacity, which allows it to be mounted in a variety of different orientations.

  • It even allows you to use multiple THs in tandem to give you multi-axis motion.

  • Roland provides standard bracketry so that you can mount multiple THs together to create these multi-axis systems without the need for any custom mounting hardware.

  • Now, taking a closer look at the TH I have with me here, you can see that it's a fully enclosed actuator system.

  • These seal strips here provide coverage and make sure that all the mechanical components are contained inside of the actuator.

  • They also move along with the carriage so that a proper seal is always maintained.

  • Another feature of the TH unit are these slots here on the side and these mounting features here on the top, which allow for easy integration of accessories such as sensor kits, fixing brackets, motor mounts, and carriage plates.

  • Now, Roland offers all these accessories and more so that you can order a fully kitted system all the way up to the motor from one place.

  • Now, if you're interested in learning more about Roland's TH, check out some of the links below in the bio or head on over to Roland.com, where you'll find catalogs, product specs, and CAD models for these units.

  • And please take a second to hit like and subscribe below so you don't miss any of Roland's upcoming Tech Talk videos.

  • Thanks a lot for watching.
