Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hello, I'm Wilbur. I've noticed a lot of people are talking about one thing at the moment, and that thing is Christmas. I've been asking my friends here at Web Certain about it, and it turns out that each country has its own Christmas traditions. My friend Cesar comes from Portugal, and he says that in the region of Trás-das-Manches, they celebrate the winter solstice by dressing as caratuches. These caratuches are usually teenage boys who dress from head to toe in colorful wools and fabrics with painted masks to cover their faces. On Christmas Day, they jump around, scream, and tease people in their village by singing funny songs about them to create chaos and entertain the villagers. They may also go from house to house where they're given food. Ooh, I like the sound of this already. The idea is to celebrate the fact that it will soon start to get warmer so everyone can have fun again. I hope you enjoyed learning how they do things in Portugal. Happy Christmas from everyone here at Web Certain.
