What are the best man’s responsibilities you might ask? The best man has some very

important duties, one of which is planning the bachelor party. He is also supposed to

be the biggest source of support for the groom during the wedding planning process. He can

also help with the coordination of the tux fittings for all of the groomsmen, as well

as prepare a toast for the rehearsal dinner. His most important responsibility is to ensure

the grooms timely arrival to the ceremony location on the wedding day. He also will

usually hold the ring for the groom during the ceremony, as well as sign the marriage

license as a witness. During the reception, he is the one who starts

off the toasts to the bride and groom. He can also help with the decoration of the

car, organizing the groomsmen for photos as well as helping with the return of the formalwear

after the wedding and reception. All of this depends on the person who is chosen

to fulfill this role. Some best men are lucky to make the ceremony on time themselves, let

alone get the groom there too. At a minimum, the best man is required to

at least attend the bachelor party, stand up with the groom at the ceremony, and make

the first toast at the reception.

Holding such a prominent place in the wedding party, the best man should be someone who

is at least the groom’s very best friend. Many grooms choose a family member for their

best man and I have even seen some choose their father, depending on their relationship.
