Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles [music] This week's Music Monday is the snowy edition with Girls' Generations "The Boys" [music] So I gotta say, this has got to be the prettiest video Girls Generation has ever released The opening sequence was just so beautiful with the rose rain and the slow motion camera and Mr. Brohoho's 360 degree camera Yep. You know it's an SM video when you see the slow motion 360 degree camera TVXQ's "Before You Go" SHINee's "Replay" a lot of Super Junior videos They love them some 360 degree cameras. That being said, this is the first Girls Generation song that I actually hated. Every single Girls Generation song I heard before this song I really loved, and I wanted to listen to it on repeat and sing along with it. Run Devil Run, Genie, Gee, I even like their commercial songs like Chocolate Love This one: I HATED IT! All their other songs have like an addictiveness to it you want to hear it again and again. This song I heard once, and I thought I never want to hear this song again...like, never. The beginning of this song sound really really awesome, really Brittany Spears-esque THEBOYSTHEBOYSTHEBOYSTHEBOYSTHEBOYS And then suddenly I hear "We bring the boys out" Was that a Girls Generation girl rapping? Oh no! Oh no! nnonononononononononon I have really low tolerance for girls rapping if it doesn't sound really fierce or hardcore I'll give you an example of one of my favorite Kpop rappers. GRACIAS! PREGGO! MOZZARELLA! I don't think the Mozzarella part is in the song. Oh, well sorry about that. Well, anyways, Miryo's an example of a great powerhouse rapper. Girls Generation are not rappers. They're incredible singers, I love their voices, but they should just not rap like, ever, like ever again. That whole main chorus part like "GIRLS GENERATION" It makes my skin crawl. It doesn't have any power or force to it I feel the same way, for example, when Kanye West tries to sing I know you lllewlkekptugivu repuairjgvj vikjfrge Kanye is a rapper, and not a singer. And his singing for JYJ's Ayy Girl was just monkeyballs awful. I, on the other hand, liked the song a lot more than Martina did. Maybe I'm just a Girls Generation fan at heart? This wasn't their best song in my opinon: Genie has that honor. And while I do really like the singing in this song, I do have to agree with Martina and say that the rapping was, indeed, monkeyballs awful. It also seems like the video didn't really match the lyrics of the song. The kind of feeling we get from the song is a kind of Pussycat dolls sassy attitude about your ability to pick up guise As soon as I step on the scene, I know that they'll be watching me I'll be the hottest thing out there. That indeed might be true, but I guess we'll never know. Since you're singing in a giant empty room in the middle of the arctic, in the middle of a diamond WTF? I don't know, but don't these lyrics seems like they fit better for a club scene video? Or just about anywhere else in the world that has a population greater than 9? It seems to us that Girls Generation are being isolated from society just like how Super Junior are in their oddly lit rooms. In fact, the only other Girls Generation video that had a clear male role in it was Hoot, and guess what. that male lead was Siwon from Super Junior. And really, for a Girls Generation song about bringing the boys out, there was certainly a strong lack of boys in the video. In fact, I have very little confidence that Girls Generation can bring out any boys since their video has no boys in it. If I'm a rapper, and I'm talking about all the hoes I can get, I would have a video full of hoes Girls Generation, I'm a fan, and I'd like to help you out You need some boys for your video, and you clearly lack them. Let me call up some of my homies, and we can join your video. But first, I'ma need some directions to this abstract party location of yours, [music] What's this? Grass? Oh I'm lost! Let me check my map. [DOTHRAKI MAN MAP MUSIC!] Ah! I never should have taken that left at Flaxtonville! Oh look! A wild pack of Spudgies! Slow motion 360 degree cam! [Awesome 360 degree cam music] Now the dance for this video I really loved But this was really different from their other dances because it didn't have a unique and specific dance move that you could follow but I managed to pick out one that I thought was awesome. I call it the sexy traffic director. What? What the hell? Hey you car! Stop right there! Detour is this way! This way! ???? You gotta stop! Go this way! This way! !!!! You gotta go around! You gotta go around! I don't understand why they're stopping! I clearly showed them to go! Why do I always get backed up traffic!? OH! [music] As for the English of the song, we give this a 4 out of 5 We were really excited that there was an all English version of the song so that's the one we're reviewing. We're quite happy that the English actually isn't that bad here. There isn't any gibberish or nonsense English that we're used to in SM songs Nor is there any terrible pronunciation, so, wow. SM. Wow. We do still have a problem with the English though. See, there is a lot of English used in the song and when you first hear it you kind of get a feeling of what it means but when you look back on it, you realize that you get an overwhelming feeling of what the hell am I saying? I know life is a mystery I'm gonna make history I'm taking it from the start call an emergency I'm hearing the phone ring I'm feeling this in my heart. On its own, those sentences make sense. But put it together and what does it even mean. You're telling me to call an emergency but you're watching the phone ring? How about you just pick up the damn phone yourself and call it in? And the rest of the lines are just as confusing North American pop songs, even if they don't have the deepest or most profound message, at least they have some message that you can follow and associate with the song. the only feeling that I get from this song is that the writer eats far too much Chinese food. AHH! I have no idea what I'm gonna write for this song! I'm so freaking screwed! [sighs of exasperation] Hmmph. Life is a mystery. Hmm. You know...that's pretty good, fortune cookie. I have a brilliant idea! Yeah I like that! I'm going to make history! Brilliant! Oh! This was such a great idea! Finished! Boom! ...that was a terrible idea [music] Last week we asked you which home intruder video you preferred. Infinite in "Paradise" or CN Blue in "Love Girl" And the winner was, actually, Infinite! Wow! Although I kind of feel like CN Blue should have won because they come out of a poster! I mean, how home intrudier can you get? Come out of a poster! For this week's Snowy Edition we ask you which snowy edition you preferred! Girls Generation's "The Boys" or U-Kiss' "Neverland" Leave your votes in the comments, or in our Facebook poll, and we'll announce the winners next week.
