Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles A really common problem with the pole plant is focussing just on the hand that's doing the planting. So people think yes I'll get that hand and give a good solid pole plant but forget what this uphill hand is doing. So this hand is going to go in to the snow but I'm going to let my uphill hand trail behind me and it's going to take my shoulder and make me twist. You've got to keep those hands in front, and as that pole is coming forward, this hand is still ready for the next turn. There, not there. Let me show you what I'm talking about. So on these first few turns I'm reaching with one pole and letting my other hand go behind, but it's also taking my shoulder, remember body position is key, keep both the hands in front and as you pole plant the other hand should still be nicely in front of you.
