emotional intelligence is
just another way, for saying, mindfulness of the motion
it has to do with bringing awareness, that various features of
the emotional landscape, not just your emotional landscape
but the emotional landscape of others, to be sensitive to like, when you
you're trying to get your daughter dressed in the morning
and you're on your fifth
dress, and you know, and
she's rejected all of them, and you get a little huffy
because you have time urgency, that she doesn't know anything about, because she's
not living in time world, but you are
and
you get a little huffy, and you see the look on her face
then you realize, that like, how much do I
need, you know, and I say to myself, I've got to get
this meeting, maybe you don't need to get to that meeting, how many meetings
can you remember, that you didn't have to be at in your life, but your daughter
will only be
that moment, that age, for a very brief time
can you be there with her fully, so that doesn't mean you should likes
give up your job, but it means, that we cultivate a certain kind of balance
when we understand the importance
of what we most care about, or love
I've come to realize, in my
you know, year's of practicing formal meditation, that actually
take your seat in formal meditation, you could say is a
radical act, first of all, for americans it's like
non doing, come on, I mean that's anti-american
like you know, shut off your cellular phone
and go home, my god, like how would I be connected?
with 24/7 connected, but hardly ever with ourselves, with our body, with our breath
with our awareness
talk about the vagus nerve, listen, it's not rocket's alliance, it starts a
surf on the waves of your breath, and drop into your belly
your vagus nerve, just like you know, sort of, chill out the whole system
it's not like you need to, sort of
train this for years, and years, the body has this wisdom already
you don't have to cultivate awareness, have to learn is to find it, inhabit it
it's like your apartment, it's your house
but you know, we haven't been having it and we've been
sort of, living on the street, lost on thought, homeless
so coming back into the body, is like, you know, recovery
