Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hey guys, welcome back to my channel. I've got a bit of a different video for you today. A while ago, well actually quite a while ago it was like a few months ago now, I watched a video by Ellen from Ellen's in Wonderland where she talked about her internship and what she got up to there and I found it really interesting just to hear what a normal day in her work life was, because I feel like aside from what I see in movies and TV shows and who knows how accurate they are, I really don't know what people in other careers get up to. So today I thought I'd tell you what a normal work day for me looks like just in case you've ever been interested and wondering what a designer gets up to on a day to day basis. So i should start off obviously by telling you what my job is, and in case you didn't know, I'm a marketing designer at Xero which is a company that makes beautiful online accounting software. Being a marketing designer is pretty much exactly what the name suggests, I basically design for Xero's marketing. Whether that involves websites or swag or tshirts, office signage, ads, maybe booths for events, it's really varied which is what I really love about it because there's always something different going on. I always start my day by checking my emails and I've read in tons of blog posts and things that that's not what you're supposed to do, you're supposed to start off the day with a few tasks and like, get things done before you check emails but being that we're a global company I like to check first thing just in case anything has come in overnight from one of the other regions in case there's anything I need to action. And then I get on with my task list. Normally before I leave work for the day I set myself a little list of things to do the next day so then I know when I come in in the morning exactly what I have to get on with, because mornings are tough. So then I just get on with it basically. My job is fairly self-driven and by that I mean that there's not someone watching over me and asking what I'm doing every hour, I don't have to timesheet or anything like that which I really like I think its much better and you can be more creative when you're not having to worry about filling in a time sheet. I'm set briefs by other team members of what they need, and we often have a lot of meetings and work through things together to come up with a good solution. Something I really like about my job is that I get to work with people who are from a lot of the other different areas of the business, which is cool because it's nice to get a glimpse into how other areas of the company work. Most days I do spend the majority of my day, sitting at my desk, which I know is not good for you but... I also usually come home on my lunch breaks as well because I only live like literally maybe 4 or 5 minutes walk from work, so that's really good for a change of scenery and sometimes I can come and get a few things done off my side-project to do list during my lunch break, so that's good. I do really enjoy my days at work though. I think I'm really lucky to have a job that I don't dread going to if that makes sense. Because I know when I used to work part time in retail I'd always be like, ugh work today. i feel like with my job I really do enjoy going in and doing my work every day so I think I'm really lucky in that sense. And that's pretty much my day at work, I don't really know what else to say about it to be honest. I hope that you guys found that interesting. I'd really be interested in hearing what a normal work day in your life involves or uni day or wherever stage of your life you're at. So leave a comment down below telling me a little bit about that and let's have a chat. As per usual, all my social media links and the link to my blog are down below so you should go check them out and follow me if you haven't already, and I'll see you guys next time. bye!
