Hi I'm Coach Collin Castellaw with Shot Mechaincs.com and welcome to our J.R. Smith Stepback Quick
Hits Tutorial. One thing that makes J.R. Smith such a great scorer is the ability to create
space between him and his defender to get an open look. He is a master at using a behind
the back dribble to get the stepback separation to get a great look at the hoop while his
defender is off balance. Alright let's take a look at it and if you like it show us a
little love by hitting that subscribe button in the bottom right hand corner that way you
get all our videos as soon as they come out. Alright let's check it out. Alright so the
move begins as J.R.s defender is over pressuring him on the drive. J.R. Smith feels the pressure
and puts the ball behind his back with a hard pound dribble, as he does he steps back for
extra separation. This change of direction and stepback gives J.R. enough space for a
clean look. Just remember to gather yourself and not fade too much on your jump shot. Also
snap your eyes to the rim for a more accurate shot. Alright so that is how J.R. SMith uses
a behind the back stepback to get awesome separation from his defender. Just remember
when you are doing your stepback really pound that dribble hard to gain that separation.
