Hi, I am Jyothi Chabria. In this segment we will talk of simple ways to lower bad cholesterol.
Now, whenever a patient comes to us with a problem of cholesterol we normally go through
the entire lipid profile and considering that they need to cut down on this cholesterol
bit, we always recommend weight loss, but in order to keep cholesterol at bay, we have
certain food groups which helps in keeping cholesterol in control. Things like garlic
is what we recommend. In fact many times 2 to 3 parts of garlic taken on empty stomach
is recommended first thing in the morning. Also things like anti oxidants, things like
aloe vera juice or flax seeds, wheatgerm, these are things which are high in anti oxidants.
Even cucumin which is basically turmeric can be used for lowering cholesterol. Vitamin
B3 or niacin is also very integral in lowering cholesterol levels. Foods which are rich in
B3 or Niacin would include things like potato, would include things like tomato and flax
seeds, broccoli, cauliflower etc. Ideally in order to lower cholesterol we would recommend
a balanced diet, a low fat diet, a lot of exercise is emphasized, because exercise plays
one of the major roles in lowering blood cholesterol levels.
