KATE: Parking Lot Safety!

TY: As soon as you get out of the car,

TY: you're a pedestrian.

TY: Why do you need to be extra careful

TY: when you're a pedestrian in a parking lot?

DREW: There are lots of cars!

CYRANI: Moving in lots of directions!

KATE: It can be hard for cars to see me!

SYDNEI: Right!

SYDNEI: Do you know how to be a smart pedestrian

SYDNEI: when you're walking in a parking lot?

KIDS: Yes!

TY: Okay, when do you need to be careful

TY: and cautious in a parking lot?

SOPHIA: Getting out of the car!

BRANDON: Walking across the parking lot!

CYRANI: And getting back into the car!

SYDNEI: Okay, so how do you get out of a

SYDNEI: car safely in a parking lot?

SOPHIA: Getting out of the car!

SOPHIA: I wait until the car is parked and turned off.

SOPHIA: Then I unbuckle my seat belt.

SOPHIA: I get out on the same side as the driver if I can.

KATE: I slide across the back seat if I need to.

KATE: I stay close to the side of the car.

KATE: I wait for the driver to tell me

KATE: it's okay to start walking.

BRANDON: Walking across the parking lot!

TY: Some of the rules for

TY: walking in a parking lot should be familiar.

TY: What should you do to walk safely across parking lots?

DREW: I always walk, never run.

DREW: I don't play around or push.

DREW: And we stay together!

CYRANI: I walk close to adults or older kids

CYRANI: because drivers can see them better.

CYRANI: I always walk 3 steps away from parked cars.

BRANDON: I keep my head up

BRANDON: and stay alert.

BRANDON: I don't get distracted

BRANDON: and I keep a clear view of what's around me.

BRANDON: I look and listen to see if

BRANDON: cars are starting their engines or moving.

DREW: I look for white backup lights

DREW: and stop if I see them.

DREW: I freeze if I see a car backing out of a space!

SOPHIA: I set a good example for younger kids.

KATE: I cross safely.

SYDNEI: Good!

SYDNEI: Now once you're done with your trip,

SYDNEI: you're going to follow the same rules

SYDNEI: when you walk back across

SYDNEI: the parking lot to your car.

SYDNEI: But what should you do

SYDNEI: if you drop something in the parking lot?

DREW: I stop and watch where it goes.

DREW: I tell an adult,

DREW: and I let the adult go get it.

SYDNEI: And when you get back to the car,

SYDNEI: how do you get back in safely?

CYRANI: Getting back into the car!

CYRANI: I stay close to the side of the car.

CYRANI: I get in on the same side

CYRANI: as the driver if I can.

CYRANI: I close the door quickly.

CYRANI: I buckle my seat belt right away.

CYRANI: And I tell the driver I'm buckled up.

MOM: All buckled?

KIDS: Yes!

TY: Knowing how to walk safely in parking lots is

TY: another important part of being a smart pedestrian.
