Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Welcome back to FLY TV Squeeze! I am Niklaus Bauer. This is my good friend Tom from Stockholms Fiske & Fritid. We are chasing asp on poppers today. Small poppers, big poppers. All kinds of surface action flies. It is a kind of sight fishing. You cast where the fish shows. When they are going after the minnows. - Yes. That is what we are doing at the moment. We are just following the bank. As we can see here, there are some fish chasing the minnows. We are searching the areas where they are crashing bait. We are fishing in this big lake and its the end of August. Summer has been warm, but it is cooler now. All the minnows are on the surface. The water temperature is about 60-65 °F. We have a lot of bait fish on the surface. You have fished for asp for a long time? It is kind of a challenge to catch them on poppers; it is not the easiest thing. Sometimes it is really fun to... - It is the coolest thing. You really want this surface action. That is why we use poppers. There is no fish like an asp on poppers. It is called the poor man's tarpon here in Sweden. We have been seeing a lot of fish crashing all over the place here. We are wondering what kind of fish it is. It is actually the fish we are fishing for. The smallest one! Cool! They can only get bigger. - I hope so. Look at the mouth of this guy. It is really made for eating minnows. Bye bye! Well, we are getting something. Good job, man! It just hammered that one. When I am fishing asp with popper- -I prefer to fish with a pretty fast action rod. It is a 9 feet rod and the line weight should be between 7 and 9. I am using a 9 weight at the moment, as I want to cast most sizes of poppers. This is probably the biggest popper I use. This is on tube. We go down to the smallest we use. It is this size. These small guys have a tendency to work really good. The colours we use are very basic. This is white with silver and blue. We also have white and pink with some UV flash in it. It has worked really well too. You can also hit them with divers. This is very simple. It is a kind of reversed one. It dives down and floats back up. And then it dives down again. If they do not want to hit it on the surface, this can work very well. You can use that. When it comes to the leader- -if there is a lot of pike in the area, you can use a thin wire. I usually like to have a 0.40 fluorocarbon shock tippet. You make a loop knot like this, then the fly can move freely. The fly will have much better action. Any luck? - No, not yet. I am going black. Subtitles: Daniella Falkman Twedmark www.textsmart.se
