The 48 Laws Of Power by Robert Greene
number three conceal your intentions keep people off balance and in the dark by
never revealing the purpose behind your actions. if they have no clue what you are up
to
they cannot prepare a defense Guide them down the wrong path envelope them in
enough smoke and by the time they realized your intentions it will be to late
most people just say how they fell always putting their two cents into everything they indiscriminately tell
others what their future plans are and never care to control their tongues they
think life is just so much better when you're an open book but sometimes honesty is not the best
policy in reality honesty is actually a blunt instrament which bloodies more than it cuts that's because being too honest has
negative side effects
one you may offend the wrong person
the great Michael Jordan his royal airness understood he had to control his tongue
when once asked why he refused to endorse a black Democratic candidate during the prime of his career he
responded
"republicans buy shoes too" he was too smart to needlessly alienate and offend
half the population and now he's the first NBA player to ever become a billionaire
two when you're an open book you become too predictable everyone knows what to expect from you
and you lose your ability to become respected
remember the classic cool kid in high school you know the guy that was so aloof nonchalant
every one always wanted to know what he was up to
concealing your intentions makes you hard to read and creates an air of mystery
three it brings undue stress and pressure if you announce to the world you are going to
become an engineer your friends your family even acquaintances are now
expecting you to become an engineer you then find out engineering just isn't for you and decide to quit and that's
ok if you don't like something or find it unsuitable for you
the smart thing to do is forget about
but since you decided to reveal to everyone your intentions people are going
to ask what happened what went wrong and eventually it gets to you four not everyone wants you to succeed there may be
individuals your group who are secretly rooting for you to fail or even worse getting
in your way so
if you can't tell people what your true motives are
what do you tell them
whatever they want to hear pretend to support an idea or cause that is contrary to your
own if it helps you win others over
or allows you to maneuver more freely under the radar just do it
its what politicians have been doing for centuries is what Otto Von Birmarck did
a Prussian deputy during a time when Germany was divided he wanted so badly to go to
war with Austria there was just two problems the King of Prussia did not want to go to
war and Bismarck knew the Prussian army would likely lose anyways so he decided to proclaim
a hatred for war and convince many members of parliament to vote against it the king upon seeing such
support from Bismarck on the matter made him cabinet minister and eventually Prussian Premiere
giving him complete control over the military from there on
bismarck secretly training the Prussian army and when he finally had more authority than the king himself he sent troops into
battle
crushed the Austrian army and united Germany under one rule use false sincerity
reveal something to others that builds sympathy for you
ask yourself this the next time you see a political ad what does this
politicians father being an immigrant steel factory worker or their mother
being a former nurse during vietnam have to do with their ability to govern why
did they tell us these humanizing stories instead of their policy
positions its because we value honesty above all that's why they look directly
into the screen squint their eyes pause as if they're choking up a bit and tell us a sad
story about a poor family they spoke to in Kansas
perception is reality the 1960 debate between John F Kennedy and Richard Nixon
was first presidential debate ever televised and something strange happened the people who tuned
in to their radio thought nixon had won in a landslide while the television viewers
JFK had won in a landslide the reason for this discrepancy nixon had awkward limp due to an
injured knee he just finished making appearances in all 50 states refused to
have makeup applied and didn;t even shave nixon lookedlike a complete mess especially in
contrast to a calm cool and collected kennedy at the time of the debate
88 percent of American households had televisions
it is now common knowledge that the first nineteen sixties debate was a
turning point in leading to JFK's presidency
noble gestures
why do companies sometimes give away free stuff why do businesses donate to charities there can only be two explanations either these amoral
abstract constructs called corporations that we created with the sole purpose of
generating as much revenue as possible are just giving away free stuff due to purely altruistic reasons
or Apple donated 6.5 million dollars so we can feel better about how our
phones are being made from slave wages and child labor
the whole point behind concealing your intentions is to gain the upper hand to be able
to move about freely without the prying eyes or peircing judgement of others to win the victory before you
declare war that's it for this video guys please be sure to comment subscribe
