Think of a single question that you could ask only one guard that positively determines which gateway leads to paradise. I'll give you some time to let that hamster wheel inside your head ... work its magic. I don't want you dying on me. Ah, very good. You ask one of the guards "which portal would the OTHER guard say is the gateway to paradise?" If you ask the honest guard this question, he knows that the other one is a liar, so he will give you the wrong answer because that's what the other guard would say. If you ask the liar, he knows that the other guard would give you the right answer. But since he lies, he will change it to the wrong answer.
