It's a Good Idea with Angela Oberer
Recycle Coat hangers Tip #1207
Hi there, I'm Angela Oberer and if you're like me, you have a bunch of extra coat hangers
kicking around your closets. Well, that might have something to do with the fact that dry
cleaners hand out over 3.6 billion coat hangers every year to their customers for clothes
they have cleaned. In terms of steel, that breaks down to the
equivalent of 60,000 cars. I know, that's a lot of steel right?
Well coat hangers are recyclable, but lots of curbside services don't accept them because
those curved hooks can get caught in the automated recycling equipment and damage them.
So give them back to dry cleaners because we know they use them right? And it will save
them money on buying new ones. The coated hangers that have the petroleum
polymer coatings cannot be returned to dry cleaners and they don't want your plastic
or wood hangers either. But you can send those to thrift stores or consignment stores that
use coat hangers for clothes that they resell. So organize your coat hangers and pack them
up so they are easy to put in your car, and that makes it easier for the dry cleaner to
use as well. Recycle your coat hangers, It's another little
thing you can do to help save the planet and it's a good idea.
That is a good idea.
